facebook.comA bright, sunny, warm (50 deg F) day today, and we had to say goodbye to our ``old man` Rocky - Ch, TCh Wimberway`s Helzapopin CD WC RE....almost 8 years to the day from when we lost our first TCh hopeful `Penny`. Rocky completed his Championship the day he turned 9 mos, with a Group 1st, at the Sault Ste Marie KC shows, went on to earn all 4 of his tracking titles very easily and very quickly - in 16 months with limited trialling, and yesterday was swimming and retrieving in the pond. We have sons and daughters of his, and his last litter was born two days ago. RIP Rocky - Aug 25, 2005 - May 19, 2017. Thankyou for sharing your life with us.
Happy Mother`s Day to all Mothers, Grandmothers, and great Grandmothers. Have a great day and enjoy it the way YOU want to.

Parasites THAT THREATEN YOUR PETS PARASITES THAT THREATEN YOUR PETS TICKS HOW YOUR PET PICKS 'EM UP Ticks sense heat and carbon dioxide as animals walk by. They latch onto your pet, embed their mouth parts into his skin and start to feed. WHY ARE THEY BAD? While feeding on your pet's skin, ticks spit out bacteria that cause Lyme Disease, which can lead to arthritis and kidney failure. WHAT TO DO If you find a tick, use gloves and tweezers to carefully remove it. (You want to get the whole tick.) Talk to your vet about Lyme Disease medication. FLEAS HOW YOUR PET PICKS 'EM UP Fleas are commonly picked up from a flea-infested environment such as wood piles, wet grass or carpeting. They usually live on your pet for their entire life cycle. WHY ARE THEY BAD? Flea eggs fall off your pet - onto your bed, couch and carpet - where they hatch and multiply rapidly. If your pet ingests the fleas, she could get tapeworms. WHAT TO DO The best thing to do is make sure your pet is protected with flea medication from the spring to fall. HEARTWORM HOW YOUR PET GETS IT Heartworm is spread through bites from infected mosquitos. Six to seven months after being bitten, the parasite reaches your pet's heart where it matures into long, thin worms. WHY ARE THEY BAD? Heartworm can cause heart or lung problems, which can be fatal. WHAT TO DO Great news! Heartworm is 100% preventable through medication. Talk to your vet about the right treatment for your pet. ROUNDWORM HOW YOUR PET GETS IT Roundworm is 5" long worms that live in the intestines. Puppies and kittens can get roundworm from their mothers at birth, or by eating animal stool with roundworm eggs. WHY ARE THEY BAD? Roundworms take nutrients from your pet, and can grow large enough to block her intestine. Your pet may lose weight, vomit and have diarrhea. Plus family members can get roundworm too. WHAT TO DO Get your pet's stool tested regularly, especially in the first year. Talk to your vet about medication. Manitoulin Island vet cautions locals after six dogs are treated for Lyme disease | Cottage Life
Just back from the 6 Nickel District KC dog shows near Sudbury, and with 'early" judging each day, opted to stay over rather than get up at 5am each day and have a 2 hour drive each way........Shared a room with a friend who did well with her dogs, and "northern" dogs seemed to do well all weekend in their respective breeds or groups too. There were entries from Alberta, Quebec, Nova Scotia, USA, and all parts of Ontario including Thunder Bay. Richard Paquette kept the shows running smoothly and encouraged everyone to support the Zone 4 Junior handlers - the regional finals were held yesterday (Sat) for both Juniors in obedience and conformation. We did well....completing a Championship on "Otter", and taking Best of Breed 3 times - twice with "Otter (now Ch Wimberway's Otter Do It WC,) and once with Lucky (Wimberway's N Lucky Seven TDX UTD WC RI) and saw a half sister to Ivan's Golden Jilly, go Best Baby Puppy in Show today. The judges we had for the Labradors came from Australia, Manitowaning, Paris, and London, ON., and Nova Scotia, The Maritime judges may NOT be getting home tonight or tomorrow as many flights have been cancelled to the east coast due to the weather....and some exhibitors didn't get to the shows due to the weather in southern Ontario on Thurs/Fri.

Our thanks to Tony and Beth for transporting two Labrador pups from North Bay to Thunder Bay and their new owners.....Both have arrived safely and apparently behaved well on the long drive.
