Emergency Notice: Several impacts were experienced throughout the SLRD overnight due to the heavy rain / rain on snow event. All provincial agencies and contractors with responsibility for impacted infrastructure are aware, and responding. Of note: #SLRDAreaA is currently isolated due to at least one substantial mud and rockslide at Hell Creek on Road 40. Road 40 is closed at the Lillooet Junction. The Hurley FSR is also inaccessible due to impacts at Wolverine Creek on the Lillooet River FSR. Assessments are in progress. #SLRDAreaB and #SLRDAreaC - the Highline Road is closed between Seton Portage and D'Arcy. Terrain stability assessments are in progress at Seton Portage. #SLRDAreaD - Squamish Valley Road is closed at the Pilchuk Bridge until the water recedes. UPDATE: Drive BC is reporting that the road has re-opened. ORIGINAL POST: The Duffey Lake Road (Hwy 99) was closed overnight due to the high avalanche hazard. The road is expected to re-open following avalanche control, which is taking place this morning from 8 - 10 am in the vicinity of Duffey Lake. Drive BC is also reporting slippery sections from Lillooet to Hat Creek Corner. Travelers are advised to exercise caution and consider alternate plans. Check www.drivebc.ca for updates.
Extreme weather / travel alert: Heavy rain is expected over the next 48 hours, along with a sharp rise in freezing levels. A rainfall warning and high streamflow advisory are in effect for Howe Sound / Sea to Sky, and road conditions throughout the SLRD are expected to be poor over the next 48 hours (through Thursday morning). Drive BC is reporting that the Duffey Lake Road is subject to closure due to high avalanche hazard. Non-essential travel is not recommended, but if you must travel, please check Drive BC before you set out, ensure your vehicle is properly equipped with winter tires and chains, and give yourself plenty of time to arrive at your destination.
