The Milton Elf started on Dec 01, 2015 by 2 local residents and friends along with some secret elves behind the scenes. The Elves cashed out some reward points, pooled some money and new items they found on buy and sell groups and decided to do random Elfing along Milton. Surprising people in malls, gas stations, parking lots and leaving small tokens on porches and cars. Today it was the Oakville & Milton Humane Society's turn to be "elfed". They have dropped off a HUGE donation of toys, treats, clothing and food for the animals here in our shelter. Thank-you so much from all of us here, the animals are already enjoying some of their toys!

Looking for a new roommate? I am looking for a new place to live and hoping I can find a new roomie here. I am clean, quiet and keep to myself. I will not leave any dirty dishes in the sink or hog the TV. I will be the best roommate you ever had! You don't have to worry about me throwing big parties because I'm more of an introvert, but am hoping we will become best friends. My name is Lucas and I am currently staying at the Oakville & Milton Humane Society as part of the Shadow Cat Program. If you are interested in living with me check out the website for more information: http://omhs.ca/shadow-cat-program/ Looking forward to moving in!

Will was a welcome visitor this past week. Officers found Will with a badly fractured front leg and he could barely walk. He had likely been hit by a car and left. This little fellow was a fighter and thanks to the Charlie Fund of the Oakville & Milton Humane Society, Will got the treatment and the time he needed. Will's leg healed and his mobility improved. Finally ...the best news of all...his new forever family found him at the shelter and adopted him. It was great to see him so happy, healthy and totally in love with his new mom. We hope he will visit often! We love him!

There will be a Living with Coyotes Information Night on Wed Jan 20 from 7-8.30pm at St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School (1080 Linbrook Road - East entrance). While coyotes are usually docile, they are currently more visible during daylight as a few in south Oakville are sick with mange. The Oakville & Milton Humane Society has been working with the Town of Oakville and Halton police to track down coyotes that have mange. Catching elusive coyotes is difficult but OMHS has caught 4 so far and transferred them to Toronto Wildlife Centre for treatment. If you see a coyote follow these safety tips: * Never approach a coyote or stray dog. * Never feed a coyote (this includes garbage). * Keep your pets on a leash at all times. * Do not run. Wave your arms and make loud noises. Report a coyote encounter if a coyote demonstrates unusual behaviour by calling OMHS at 905.845.1551 and you can use the Town of Oakville's online Coyote Reporting Form at oakville.ca

Sam’s Story: Sam was brought to the Oakville & Milton Humane Society after a tragic accident shattered his leg. The surgery is costly but the OMHS CHARLIE FUND is a medical emergency fund that was set up for this kind of tragedy. Without a veterinarian on staff at OMHS, we rely on the expertise of the caring and supportive veterinarians in the community. This young Maltese-mix puppy was welcomed by Oakville Animal Clinic where emergency surgery was done to repair Sam’s fractured radius and ulna. Thankfully, Dr. Warren was able to fit the surgery into a busy Saturday. Sam’s surgery was possible because of donations to the shelter’s Charlie Fund. This fund pays for emergency and specialized veterinary care to help animals like Sam. The road to recovery will be long and Sam will need to recuperate from this surgery in the care of a experienced foster volunteer and continue to have regular check-ups. That will be more challenging then it sounds. How do you explain to a young playful pup that he cannot run or go on stairs? YOU can help Sam on his road to happiness by donating today to the Charlie Fund so that we will be able to say YES to the next Sam too. Go to http://omhs.ca/how-you-can-help/charlie-fund/
