A few thoughts on Take-Out Paella: Each Paella is freshly made and prepared the same regardless if it’s taken home or enjoyed in the dining room. However, customer feed-back has been mixed. Some truly enjoy the Paella, which for those that may not be familiar with this traditional dish from Spain, rice is used as the main ingredient with vegetables, seafood or chicken included as additional flavours. It is not spicy but you always have the option of asking for it to be spiced up or chorizo sausage added (not traditional Spain but requested by those familiar with Latin versions). I believe in being honest. Some customers have not been happy with take-out Paella. We have tested the Paella many times and have never found a problem in taste or texture, so I am perplexed as to an answer of why some customers have been unhappy? I know in Spain, take-out Paella is rare. But we in Canada like the option of taking food home to enjoy. It is a rice dish, which means rice will act like rice; especially this rice, the Bomba short-grain variety that we import from Spain. It is porous and absorbs the flavours of the broth and ingredients as it’s cooking and will continue to absorb even while it’s sitting at your table in the dining room or being transported to your destination. It is supposed to be crispy on the bottom and the sides. While some have viewed this as over-cooked, that is not the case. For take-out, your Paella is prepared in the proper paella pan and then scooped into a foil take-out container to keep its heat. While I don’t want to discourage you from taking a Paella home, I think we can all agree that it will never be the same experience as dining in the restaurant. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please give us a call at 905-868-9777. Cheers, Trish (owner of Lobo Iberico Restaurant).
