Description
About La Dora Francesco LaDora originally from the small town of Moliterno, in the province of Potenza, emigrated to Canada in 1903. He arrived in Montreal at the age of 7, and surely didn't imagine that he would one day own a restaurant bearing, his name.
In 1940, Frank, as he was known to his friends, and his wife Lillian opened the original LaDora restaurant at 3945 Ontario St. East. With hard work and long hours the restaurant flourished. At that time you could not describe the restaurant as uniquely "Italian", but the pasta dishes were favorites with its clientele. When Frank passed away in 1967, Ron, his son, continued in his footsteps.
In 1978, Ron had new plans for the restaurant. He decided to recreate the taste and atmosphere of Italy. That's when, along with his children Gary, Lynn, and Susan, he relocated the restaurant to 6837 Sherbrooke St. East, while taking care to preserve Frank's precious original recipes. Grandmother Saveria, mother of Ron's wife Janine, also contributed a few secret family recipes for the new menu.
La Dora restaurant has gone through several transformations since 1940, but the family atmosphere and recipes remain the same. Frank and Lillian succeeded in passing on their love of fine foods, the importance of quality and a sense of hospitality. This is why you will find to this day, the true taste of Italy on your plate. Now, three generations later, it has become a tradition with the LaDora family to serve and care for their clientele.
