Because it's BBQ season, and we have a soft spot for Asian food, here is our recipe for #Korean BBQ. First off, Korean beef is a bit different to what we are used to. While living in Japan, I was able to try #Kobebeef (the most expensive beef in the world) and Korean beef is not too far from it. Over the life of the cow, it is fed either beer or sake which helps tenderize the meat and forms those fat veins you see in the picture. I agree that it is inhumane, but the result is so absolutely delicious! 1 lb of Korean Rib-eye (can be purchased at any Asian superstores) or sirloin steak cut thinly (about 1/4 inch thick) 5 tablespoons of brown sugar 1/2 cup soy sauce 2 buds of garlic, finely chopped 1 tablespoon of crushed red pepper 1/4 teaspoon of salt 5 tablespoons of Mirin (sweet sake, bought at Asian stores) 2 tablespoons sesame oil 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds 1 cup split green onions (garnish) Combine marinade in a bowl, and add meat. Let flavors seep through the meat for 2 hours in the fridge. Fire up your grill, and cook the meat for 30 seconds each side. Garnish the meat with green onions. Serve with fresh Boston lettuce, rice, kimchi, tomatoes and cucumbers. Traditionally, the meat is wrapped up in the lettuce and made into a sandwich with your favorite garnish. To counter the heat, throw on some mayonnaise for extra flavor. Please let us know how you like it! :)

The most requested type of #steak is #mediumrare. And goes without saying it is the hardest achieve. There is a rule of thumb though, literally. Do you know that fleshy part on your thumb on your palm side? Here's how to measure meat doneness: Rare: put your index finder and thumb, and push on the fleshy part. Match that pressure to your meat. Medium: same thing with your thumb and ring finger. Medium rare: same thing with your thumb and middle finger. Well done: same thing with your thumb and pinkie. Blue: grill the meat no more than 30 seconds on each side. Here is a great video to achieve medium rare: https://youtu.be/uvs_TR7dl60

#Healthy #homemade #bread (really our own recipe and is healthy) 7 cups of whole wheat flour 2 Tablesoons dry active yeast 1/3 cup of honey (and another 1/4 cup honey later) 1 Tablespoon Sea salt 1/3 cup of olive oil 3 cups of warm water In your mixer, add the warm water (borderline hot, but you can stick your finger in it) and proof the yeast in the water. Let sit for 2-5 minutes until you see the yeast is active (yeast dissolves in water). Add 1/3 cup of honey and 1/3 cup olive oil and mix. Fold in up to 4 cups of whole wheat flour. When it's fully mixed, turn off the mixer and let the mixture sit for 15 minutes. It should rise halfway. Turn on the mixer again, and add 1/4 cup of honey, up to 3 more cups of flour. The mixture should look like a nice round ball without too much sticking to the sides (if you notice it too sticky, throw in flour 1 tbsp at a time, but never go over 7 cups of flour total.) Finally fold in the salt last minute, and change the whisk to the kneader. Knead for 10 minutes (if you are doing it by hand, push the back of your hand into the dough, fold and repeat). Take the mixture out of the bowl, and grease the bowl. Throw the dough in and turn to coat in the grease (I use spray canola oil, and it's fine). Let it rise for 1 hour. (Tip: put the dough in a sunny place, or turn up the heat to about 25`C in your kitchen.) After it rose to at least 2X, take it out and punch it down, grease the bowl again and throw back in. Let it rise for 45-60 minutes. Finally, after it rose again, take the dough and cut it in 3 pieces. Put two sections in 2 greased bread pans, and the other roll into a ball and put on a baking sheet. Let them rise for another 30 minutes as your oven is preheating to 350`F. Before you throw them in the oven, splash a little water on each dough and bake for 45 minutes. The bread will be ready when it sounds hollow when you knock on the bottom. It comes out very fluffy and moist for a 100% whole wheat bread, and crispy crust. This works well with white flour as well (but not as healthy). Please comment here when you've tried it. :)
