City #medhat Gas Distribution and Planning & Development Services want to remind home and business owners planning seasonal building projects, to keep gas lines and gas meters clear. During construction projects it is very important that gas lines are properly located and flagged and are never covered by a new structure. Gas meters must be kept accessible – and that means clear of any obstructions – not hidden under secret compartments or trap doors in backyard decks or fencing. According to Bylaw #2489 they must be accessible for safety and for regular maintenance. While fines may be levied, city workers frequently work with the home owners who have had to alter their building projects even after they are completed. medicinehat.ca/gasmeters
