We're gearing up for another 'spirited' adventure - in partnership with an illustrious and well traveled local enterprise...read on for details... FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 02/01/2018 Barque Picton Castle / Ironworks Distillery Lunenburg, Nova Scotia 902-640-2424 Two Lunenburg companies co-operate to launch “Round-The-World-Rum” Ironworks Rum to travel on Picton Castle’s last round-the-world-voyage. Lunenburg, NS: Barque Picton Castle and Ironwork Distillery have announced today that four oaken casks of Ironworks Lunenburg-made Rum will be loaded aboard Picton Castle this week and will travel in the sailing ship’s cargo hold on a voyage around the world during the next 18 months. This is the seventh and last around the world voyage of Picton Castle under the command of Captain Daniel Moreland. This rare edition rum will be a one-time release, and will be available at the end of Picton Castle’s voyage upon its return to Lunenburg in May 2019. “We are very excited to be working with the Barque Picton Castle on this project. We know that rum ages well in an oak barrel and if that barrel is riding the ocean, it will be even better. The idea that our customers will be able to enjoy a Lunenburg-made Rum knowing it has sailed around the world on a Lunenburg-based Tall Ship is quite simply very cool”, said Lynne MacKay, co-owner of Ironworks Distillery. Daniel Moreland, Captain of Picton Castle says “This fine cane elixir from Ironworks Distillery, which makes a rum as excellent as any of the very best in the Caribbean, will be snug and secure in the cargo hold for all of our trade wind passages across the South Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Oceans before hoisting it back ashore at our wharf in Lunenburg at the end of the voyage. We’re pleased to partner with such a savvy local company on this project.” Enthusiasts will be able to follow the voyage of the “Round the World Rum” via the Barque Picton Castle website at http://www.picton-castle.com which will track the voyage via GPS. There will be ongoing reports from the ship’s crew and the Captain’s log of the voyage. There will also be links to the voyage from the Ironworks website at: http://www.ironworksdistillery.com as well as updates on all our social media outlets. Media are invited to witness the loading of the rum barrels at the wharf at 174 Bluenose Drive in Lunenburg. The loading is scheduled for the first week of February, exact timing TBA, depending upon the weather. Contact us for more details at: 902-640-2424

Shipwrecked! Part two....and the credits roll. Last of the pics from our watery adventure this week. We have some folks who deserve mention and our heartfelt thanks. First hats off to Karlie Morash, Doug Bamford and Marianne Downey for setting the drums to beating that night and alerting us at home in Blue Rocks that the Rum Boat had gone rogue. Then our thanks to the stalwart Lunenburg Fire Department for helping us tie her down at the wharf that night before heading out to deal with all the other headaches the storm wrought. (We were also so grateful to whichever department had the road to Blue Rocks graded and cleared of rocks and debris so very quickly that night during the storm surge). On Friday, the day after, we got outstanding help from both Vienotte and Corkums, whose expertise with cranes and trucks was almost dancelike in its precision and efficiency. To all of you, thanks guys - you made it look easy! Thanks to Jimmy Johnson and the team from Lunenburg Town Electric who so quickly removed and secured an electrical wire over the wharf that was in the way of the crane - thus allowing for the immediate removal of the boat before the temperature plunged once more. We're grateful to Tim at the Lunenburg Foundry who managed to find us a secure space to store the vessel while we have her assessed and even made suggestions as to who could do the work. Captain Dan Moreland generously offered the use of a boat cradle that was right there at the Dory Shop. Bill and Walter Flower, as usual, gave sage advice on the process. At the end of our day, the Knot Pub was there with the warmth, beverage and fine food which we all needed. And finally cheers to our Ironworks friends and family; David, Matt, Collette, Cindy & Craig for pitching in when & where needed, whether it be holding a rope or holding down the shop while we ran about trying to make sense of things. We love you guys! That's it for now but the adventure continues so stay tuned. Ironworks over & out.
