Museum of the Highwood
Description
The Museum of the Highwood preserves and shares the history of the Highwood Region of Southern Alberta. The Museum of the Highwood is located at 406 First Street S.W. in downtown High River, Alberta. The former CPR station has been completely and beautifully restored since the fire in July 2010.
The museum re-opened to the public on May 19, 2012 with four all new exhibits: Found! Treasures from the Collection; Calamities: Past Disasters of the Highwood; The Grande Old Lady: The CPR Station in High River and The Diamond Jubilee: Celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s 60 Years on the Throne. You are invited to visit us and enjoy a guided tour or browse around on your own. Our former Family Discovery Room has been revived as our Imagination Station, and features fun and educational activities for kids of all ages.
We offer both in-house and outreach programs. This summer we are offering a variety of programs and special events for all ages. Please call the museum for more information at 403-652-7156.
We are proud to be the repository for an outstanding collection of more than 30,000 photographs relating to the Highwood region of Southern Alberta. We also have a library of local historical publications, and an extensive archival collection. Call, e-mail or, even better, visit us for assistance with your research requests.

So exciting!
It was a wonderful afternoon at the museum as we hosted several ladies from Questers International for a lovely tea. We launched the exhibit of the Constance Ings Crawford-Frost wedding dress (1889). Thanks to a generous donation from the local Questers group it was expertly repaired and restored by conservator Gail Niinimaa. This beautiful dress was heavily damaged in the 2013 flood (see photo, it is being rinsed off on the blue bin in the middle). It was one of the first artifacts to be removed from the storage space after the flood. This dress miraculously survived the fire of 2010 and the flood. It is a remarkable symbol of recovery and renewal. Thanks to Questers and Gail, and Olivia and Lecia who prepared the tea. <3
Thank you Liz Viguerez for the beautiful flowers. You are a star! They are warming up the museum (and me). <3
