**Chalet Now Closed for the 2018 Season** The winter may have started a little slow but it came on strong in late February/early March, with some of the best skiing of the season these past couple weeks. We had a record turnout (total of 29 groups from Dec-Mar with 737 participants) for our Ski School program since the passing of Jean Hanson, who was instrumental in getting the program up and running, and the grant ended. With the grant we were able to offer Ski School FREE to groups, which allowed us to put an excellent program in place, thanks to Helen Loiselle. The grant was not going to last forever and we can now still offer this unique skiing experience to youth for a reasonable price of only $8/participant. We think Jean would be proud. We also got to experience the amazing accomplishments of Paralympian Collin Cameron, who captured THREE bronze medals at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games! Thank you Collin for sharing your experience with us all yesterday at the meet and greet. Such a modest and kind man. Congratulations Collin! You have such a bright future! Our youth programs were once again to capacity and after the first two sessions were cancelled due to poor weather, the kids and volunteer coaches were able to get out, enjoy the trails and improve their skiing! Thank you to all the volunteer coaches and Alison Godwin for making it happen! It was also a busy race season at Laurentian Nordic, with the annual Sofie Manarin Nickel Loppet and OFSAA taking place on our trails this season. We played host to around 750 athletes for the 2018 OFSAA Nordic Skiing Championships! Thank you to all the volunteers that made these events happen and special shout out to Perry Sakki and Kerry Abols for organizing these events! Lastly, a HUGE thank you to the grooming team for making our trails fantastic to ski on this season! There wasn't too many days that we couldn't ski on the trails, and there was rarely a day that the trail conditions weren't amazing! Special shout out to Brian Sakki, Kerry Abols and Chris Gore for your consistent and reliable trail grooming efforts! Thus, the Chalet is now closed for the 2018 ski season but the trails remain open to members only. Ski at your own risk! Thank you to all volunteers, club members and those that came out skiing! We hope to see you all again next winter! Have a great summer!

Special shout-out to Sara Mcllraith who skied 100km in 7 hours for the Laurentian Nordic 24 Hour Relay. Here is what she said about her experience: "Achieved a big goal today. 100k ski at the Laurentian nordic ski challenge. Only took me 7 hours. Thank goodness it wasn't a running challenge. Perfect trail conditions made for an amazing day." Way to go Sara! Thanks for the inspiration and keep up the good work!
