In keeping with our commitment to reducing human-wildlife conflict in Golden, we are moving toward replacing all of our residents’ green garbage bins with a form of lockable bin that is highly bear resistant, a tactic now used by a majority of communities in North America that experience ongoing bear incursions in urban areas. Together with our working partner VP Waste Ltd. we will roll out the first 400 of the new bins in the Golden Mobile Home Park and Alexander Park neighbourhoods beginning on this week’s pickup dates. For more information, please visit the What's New section of our website, www.golden.ca or click here http://www.golden.ca/What-s-New/First-batch-of-bear-resistant-garbage-bins-roll-ou.aspx

Did you know? Along with being very unpleasant to look at or step in, dog poop contains some harmful bacteria like E-Coli. Cleaning up your dog poop ensures that children, other community members and tourists who use the trails, sidewalks, and public spaces can enjoy them. Be a responsible dog owner and clean up after your dog in public spaces! Keep an eye on your dog while out walking, carry a bag for dog poop and discard it properly. If you find yourself without a bag, look for these bins where bags are provided free of charge. Not cleaning up after your pooch contravenes the Town’s Animal Control Bylaw. Did you know? In the following areas it is mandatory to keep your dogs on a leash: The lands bounded by 10th avenue N. (Highway 95,) the Kicking Horse River, and 7th St N; on the Highway 95 bridge crossing the Kicking River; Cenotaph park; on both sides of 10th Avenue S to the CP rail overpass and finally on the rotary trail from the pedestrian bridge to the campground. Check out the image to see this highlighted in yellow. These are the busiest areas for vehicle and pedestrian traffic and therefore for the safety of your dogs and the community we ask you to respect this. Anywhere else your dogs are free to be off leash but remember they need to be within eyesight and under immediate charge and effective control.
