Tree Canada and Capital Power Support are helping Goderich tree planting through the donation of 15 trees worth over $2,400. The Oaks and Tulip trees are being planted on boulevards throughout the town in an effort to improve species diversity. The town boulevards have lost many Ash trees in recent years with the arrival of the Emerald Ash Borer. The trees were planted by Communities in Bloom Volunteers with some help from Town Parks staff.

To celebrate Earth Day, students and teachers at Goderich Public School and St. Mary’s Catholic School headed outside to plant trees with the Town of Goderich Parks Staff! This event was made possible by a grant from Union Gas to purchase trees for planting. The Town of Goderich and Union Gas have partnered to celebrate Earth Day with the youth of Goderich for almost 30 years. Every year there’s a tradition of planting two trees at local schools, where youth learn the value of urban trees and are shown proper planting techniques.

As part of the big celebration, the Goderich Youth Council has partnered with the Goderich Public Art Committee for an interactive public art installation. We’re asking the community to answer one simple question, “what makes you proud of Goderich?”, it can be about the past, present or future. Also, post lovely photos of what makes you proud of Goderich with the “#MyGoderich” in the caption on Instagram.
