Shark Derby 2017 This years event is taking place on Saturday August 19th 2017 with a storm date set for Sunday August 20th 2017 The derby committee are very excited to welcome back our long time loyal participants, captains, new comers, volunteers & our sponsors. We are looking forward to this being an even larger event than the last 5! WE ARE EXTREMELY EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE WE HAVE 25 FULL BOATS THIS YEAR LETS SEE WHO LANDS THE LARGEST SHARK ! The event is scheduled as follows CAPTAINS MEETING Friday August 18th @ 6pm All captains & participants are expected to arrive at the beer tent at 6pm to meet & greet one another, at this time wavers are signed, any questions are answered & DFO science will be present to explain rules & regulations with regard to releasing & tagging specific species & rods will be given out THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT MEETING! DEPARTURE 4am Saturday August 19 2017 Boats will leave Louisbourg Harbour ARRIVAL 4pm Captains are due to have their teams back by 4pm Saturday August 19th 2017 at Louisbourg Harbour WEIGH IN 4pm to 5pm This will take place on the Government Wharf in Louisbourg August 19th 2017 from 4pm to 5pm All are welcome to come view & take pictures of the sharks landed & cheer on our captains & the teams. AWARDS CEREMONY 5pm to 10pm At 5pm all captains & teams are expected to arrive at the beer tent for the awards ceremony where the top 3 teams landing the heaviest sharks will be presented their awards there will be prize give aways accompanied with live entertainment Harbour Town featuring Sheldon AuCoin & Ernie Wells ...our BBQ steak dinner (prepared by the Louisbourg Volunteer Fire Department)with all the trimmings will be provided for all of our participants during this time the beer tent will be open to serve beverages to everyone ...NOT ONLY PARTICIPANTS BUT THE PUBLIC AS WELL ( at an additional cost) & ( you must be 19 years of age or older to be served alcohol ) SO COME ON DOWN HAVE A DRINK, LISTEN TO SOME MUSIC & HAVE A GOOD TIME This event is a 100% nonprofit organization & all proceeds are donated locally

SALT CODFISH DINNER TUESDAY OCTOER 12TH 2017 TWO SITTINGS ONE AT 3 - 4:30 AND THE SECOND AT 5 - 6:30. WE ARE USING THE FIRE HALL IN PORT MORIEN THIS YEAR BECAUSE CELTIC COLORS IS BEING HELD AT THE LEGION. TICKETS SHOULD BE PURCHASED AHEAD OF TIME AS WE ARE PARTNERING WITH CELTIC COLORS WHO ARE OFFERING SUPPER TICKETS AS PART OF THE CONCERT PACKAGE BEING HELD AT THE LEGION. I would like to inform all my friends about the Port Morien Wildlife Association 41st Free Kids Fishin Derby coming up May 28 from 10 am till 2 pm. It is a completely free day of fun for kids. Ages are 16 an under an 16 year olds do need a licence . Everything is completely free , from pop to hot dogs . Last year we hit 181 kids which in tern made us the biggest an most successful kids derby ever in Nova Scotia. If u got the time in your busy day please share this post so the word get around to all kids of Cape Breton , as of last year we had kids from Halifax , so word of mouth is spreading .
