The Optimist Club of Halton Hills is a local service club geared towards helping youth. New members always welcome!  The Optimist Club of Halton Hills is part of the Optimist International association. More than 2,900 Optimist Clubs around the world dedicate themselves to "Bringing Out the Best in Kids."

Adult volunteers join Optimist Clubs to conduct positive service projects in their communities aimed at providing a helping hand to youth.

With their positive attitude, Optimist Club members help empower young people to be the best that they can be.

Each Optimist Club determines the needs of the young people in its community and conducts programs to meet those needs.

THE OPTIMIST CREED

Promise Yourself-

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

In 1922, the Optimist Creed was adopted as the official creed of the organization. The Optimist Creed was developed by Christian D. Larson.

Halton Hills Optimist Club to Sponsor Oratorical Contest for Students Halton Hills, Ontario – The Optimist Club of Halton Hills is encouraging area students to speak their minds about the topic “How My Best Brings Out the Best in Others” as part of the Optimist International Oratorical Contest for the 2015-2016 year. The Optimist Club will judge the local students’ speeches based on content and presentation to determine the top winners. Winners will receive cash prizes and the winning speeches will be sent to the Zone level, and possibly the District level for the opportunity to win college scholarships. Winners of the District level will be eligible to compete in a regional competition in St. Louis Missouri at Saint Louis University. Winners of the regional contests will compete in the World Championship also held at Saint Louis University. Students could possibly win up to $22,500 (USD) or more in scholarships! The contest is open to students under the age of 18 as of October 1, 2015. “As they prepare for their future, many of our local students need experience expressing their thoughts and opinions to an audience,” Club President Sunny Mehta said. “The Oratorical Contest challenges them to do just that and also offers an opportunity for scholarships. In this way, our club hopes to bring out the best in each of them and help them achieve their goals for the future.” The deadline to hand in speeches is March 23rd. Students wishing to participate in the oratorical contest can find out more about the contest by contacting Peter Welling at 905-459-4724 or Sue Walker at 905-691-8987 or email optimistclubhaltonhills@outlook.com The Optimist Club of Halton Hills has been participating in the Optimist Oratorical Contest for over 20 years and has been active in the community since 1972. Other programs and service projects that the Club is involved in include Santa Calling Program, Cross Country Race, TVCogeo Bingo, Thursday Evening Bingo at the Optimist Hall, and Texas Hold’em. Optimist International is one of the world’s largest service club organizations with 93,000 adult and youth members in 3,200 clubs in the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean and throughout the world. The Optimist Oratorical Contest is one of the organization’s most popular programs, with more than 2,000 clubs participating annually. Carrying the motto “Bringing Out the Best in Kids,” Optimists conduct positive service projects that reach more than six million young people each year. At our last dinner meeting, Optimist Club President Sunny presented an Appreciation Award to Rick and Sheri Chambers. Rick joined the Optimist Club of Georgetown in 1978, then left to go overseas in 1983. He rejoined the club in 1991. Sheri was part of the Opti-Mrs., as at that time the Optimist Club did not allow women to join. Over they years they have helped with Bang-O Rama, our Santa Calling program, Texas Hold'em Nights, Bingos, Cross Country Runs and many, many more events. In 1999, Rick was elected Club President. Please join us in saying "Thank You" to these two wonderful and deserving people!

We received a lovely thank you note from Community Living North Halton. Optimist Club of Halton Hills donated $600, and made sandwiches for their annual Christmas party. As well some our members volunteer at the party. Another example of how the money we raise at our events, goes back to helping youth in Halton Hills!
