Gro-Bark
Description
Gro-Bark is one of Ontario's major horticultural supply companies. We are a progressive, high quality producer of bulk organic landscape materials. Starting in 1980, Jim McKague began producing composted pine mulch (CPM®) from the aged bark piles that belonged to sawmills in the Ottawa Valley. In the late 1980s, son Bill McKague took over the company and added shredded pine mulch (SPM®) to the product line. Like the vast majority of Gro-Bark's current product offering, SPM® is produced using purchased sawmill bark from many mills in Southern and Northeastern Ontario. Bark is still the company's core business and the many operating sites are situated to service the forestry industry and provide processed inventories for Ontario's landscaping, container nursery and greenhouse industries. More than a decade ago, Bill McKague expanded into the composting business and more recently into the production of landscape soils which provides integrated markets for the production of organic raw material ingredients.
