Balfour Greenhouses
Description
The Kalanchoe Specialists - Balfour Greenhouses specializes in the production and selling of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana. Established in 1976, our facility spans 400,000 square feet and operates with automated heating, lighting, fertilizing and watering systems ensuring consistent quality across all crops. Most of our staff is trained to spot bug infestations, fungi problems or other abnormalities – the more eyes looking at our crops, the better! This helps us react immediately to solve any problem before it might affect the crop. We use biological controls for insect treatment rather than harmful pesticides. Fourteen years ago, we installed a water re-circulation system so that fertilized water goes back into our plants, not in the ground or general waterways.
Rather than coal, wood or other polluting fuels, we use natural gas for heating.
Our boilers are equipped with smoke gas condensers that recover 15% of waste heat and send less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. We redirect the waste heat and carbon dioxide to our plants – they need both heat and carbon dioxide to grow and produce oxygen. We distribute our product across North America and into South America, and have valuable overseas supplier relationships in both the East and West.
