Member Spotlight This young CVAC Jaguar blew away the competition during the 2017 season when she smashed the BC record for her age group in the 1000m by an astounding 6.51 seconds. Alexa Dow, 10, also won the 2017 BC Provincial Junior Track and Field Championships for both the 1000m and the 600m and was undefeated in both events both on the island and in Vancouver for the entire season. The Bench Elementary School student is one dynamic athlete. Alexa also runs cross-country and won the BC Cross Country Provincial Championships two years in a row—2016 in Nanaimo and 2017 in Abbotsford. She also won the 2016 and 2017 BC Athletics Lower Mainland Cross Country series. Look out for this young star to continue to mount the podium as she also competes in field events including javelin, shot put, high jump and long jump. We here at Cowichan Sportsplex congratulate Alexa on her outstanding season, and we are proud to be here for her to train for many years to come. Please join us in supporting Alexa and all the athletes who rely on our nonprofit organization to train, to discover new friendships, and to become confident young leaders in our community!
