The Captain's House, built in 1861, is a landmark property on the waterfront of the village of Chester, Nova Scotia. Chester lies one hour from Stanfield International Airport and 45 minutes from down town Halifax.

This spectacular property is perfect for vacation rentals, wedding celebrations, and business retreats.  The views from the house are stunning - deep green forested islands, gracious waterfront homes, and sailboats moored in the protected inlet named, simply, The Back Harbour. The house faces south west…. end your day grilling a whole salmon on the BBQ, sip something delectable, and watch the sun dip slowly into the ocean.

A handsome bar, with water views on two sides, opens onto a large patio, which steps down to a semi circular wooden deck.  Drop by the local liquor store to pick up your favourite bottle of wine and visit the Farmers Market in neighbouring Hubbards to supply you with tempting local cheeses, meat, seafood and vegetables.

Couples who choose the Captain's House for their marriage, will create everlasting memories of their  wedding by the sea. The butter yellow kitchen has been renovated to accommodate catered events, and vacationing groups of friends, or extended family. Beyond the kitchen, four inter-connecting rooms are available for entertaining. A sound system floods the house with the music.

The Captain's House has 5 bedrooms with en suite bath. Baker House, a second rental property, with swimming pool, is located a few blocks away. It has an additional 5 bedrooms. Aside from these 10 rooms, the village has additional rooms located within easy access to the Captain's House.

You can walk from the Captain's House to various eateries: Casually elegant white table cloth restaurant, rustic tavern, French bakery, funky cafes with button popping deserts. The 18th century Rope Loft restaurant, overhangs the ocean, on wooden posts. Chester is home to many fine artisans who have retail space in the village. The village also offers live theatre, and ocean front golf. All in an historic setting by the sea.
