All of us at Carnduff Agencies (2015) Inc. would like to take a minute to point out 6 key tips for keeping you and your dwelling/belongings safe: 1. Keep the snow load on your roof to a minimum. Keeping snow off your roof helps reduce the chance of your roof collapsing due to an excessive snow load. 2. Keep gutters and downspouts free of snow, ice buildup and icicles. This will allow a ready path for melted snow on your roof to drain, eliminating the potential for ice dam formation. This also helps with the weight of ice and snow on the gutters. 3. All homes need to be checked daily in the heating season. This is especially important for your policy to be valid. Some coverages are limited or excluded for damage to your dwelling while vacant. 4. Turning off the main water line and draining all water vessels if you are going to be gone for an extended time frame. Some coverages are limited or excluded for damage to your dwelling while vacant. 5. Remove snow away from the house and basement windows. This is a fire exit for anyone using their basement. It also helps with the seepage of water in the spring/thaw. 6. Remove snow away from your air vents, gas meters, intakes and exhausts.
