Bertram Dyck Leadership Bursary The Bertram Dyck Bursary was created by the Town of Canmore to honor Bert’s several years of leadership in our community; first as mayor for two terms from October 1992 until October 1998 and then as Chief Administrative Officer from March 5, 2001 until his retirement on May 15, 2005. The $1,000 Leadership Bursary is awarded annually to a Grade 12 graduating student residing in Canmore. Applicants must compose and submit a minimum 500-word essay on Leadership. The deadline to apply is Friday, June 2. Submit essays to Suzette Cardinal, Executive Assistant via email at scardinal@canmore.ca or by dropping off a printed copy at the Civic Centre at 902 7th Avenue.

Along the Bow II An exploration of the valley by professional members of the Alberta Craft Council Exhibition Dates: April 7 - May 9, 2017 Artist Reception: 7-9 pm, Saturday, April 7 Location: Three Sisters Gallery, Elevation Place, Canmore, AB Along the Bow II is an exploration of the valley by Alberta Craft Council members living in the region. This is a community partnership exhibition organized by the Alberta Craft Council and the Town of Canmore. Last year’s first Along the Bow exhibition was a great success with fascinating depictions of the valley. The stunning and bold beauty of Bow Valley continues to be a rich source of inspiration for the participating artists in Along the Bow II. Some have delved into the Bow's rich history. Others are looking to the present and future in these times of increasing urbanization and tourism in the valley. Participating Artists are professional members of the Alberta Craft Council and residents of the Bow Valley: Ilse Anysas-Salkauskas, Sarabeth Carnat, Corinne Cowell, Charles Lewton-Brain, Jean-Claude and Talar Prefontaine, Dana Roman, Dirk van Wyk, Kari Woo and Simon Wroot

A regular council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 4 at 5 p.m. at the Canmore Civic Centre. Spring Creek Drive and Main Street Construction Construction is expected to begin mid-April with work on Main Street to be completed for Canada Day and work on Spring Creek ongoing until the fall. The Indoor Walking Lane's season has been extended. Located at the Peaks of Grassi Gym in the Canmore Recreation Centre, the lane will now be open from April 1-25. Mon: 8:00am-12:30pm Tues, Weds, Thurs: 10:30am-12:30pm Fri: 10:15am-12:30pm Sat & Sun: 8:00am-10:00am **Lane will be closed April 14th and 17th for the Easter Holidays.

Improvements are taking place on six of the Town’s bridges and culverts. Time planks have been replaced and frames have been added on the Policeman’s Creek boardwalk and the small timber pathway bridge near 12th Ave. Improvements to the road bridge near the Canmore Ranch (road to the Waste Water Treatment Plant) will take place this spring. Short term closures of the bridge can be expected. Users of this gated road will be notified in advance. Remaining improvements will include clearing debris from culverts under the Spur Line Trail, 17th St and 8th Ave. No closures are expected to result from this work. The first reading of the Smith Creek ASP and Resort Center ASP amendment will be rescheduled from April 4 (pending the finalization and review of the required EIS Third Party Review reports). The Town of Canmore has awarded the Mountain Pine Beetle tree removal contract. Infested trees on or near private property will be felled and removed to a burn pit. Infested trees on Town Reserve areas may be felled and burned on site, felled and peeled on site or felled and moved to the burn pit. For public safety and for the safety of the contractors, we are asking the public to stay well clear of any active tree removal or burn sites. Fires will be monitored.
