THEOLOGICAL RATIONALE
Acts 2: 42-47 – We are called to share our gifts in community, seeking fellowship and praising God.
1 Peter 4:10-11 – As disciples we are called to be stewards of God’s Grace by serving one another
with the gifts we have been given.
As a community of faith God calls us to be:
• A welcoming body that provides time and space for all people to explore and grow on their
faith journey.
• A diverse community that seeks to explore and grow in our faith journey.
• A community that values the old and the new, building on the traditions of the church,
cherishing our history, embracing new opportunities and creatively exploring our purpose as
Christ’s body in the world.
• People who openly share their talents and gifts with one another to further the life and work
of the church.
• Lifelong learners through Christian education and fellowship for children, youth and adults.
• Stewards of God’s grace for ourselves and others by supporting outreach within our
congregation, community and beyond.
• People who inspire and motivate one another to deepen our relationship with God and each
other.
• People who encourage one another, offering care and support through all of life’s stages
• Willing to listen for the Spirit and open ourselves to new opportunities through the
inspiration of Christ’s teachings in scripture and the continuing work of God in the world.

Ash Wednesday the beginning of the Lent– Easter cycle. It is marked by the ceremonial distribution of ashes as a symbol of entering into the penitential Season of Lent. The wearing of ashes, made from the burning of the previous year’s palms from Palm Sunday, is considered a sign of repentance, sorrow, and mourning, an appropriate way to begin Lent. Lets focus on balancing the private nurturing of our faith with the call to spread the good news of repentance and forgiveness.

WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY Day Eight: Our Covenant with God He will gather the dispersed . . . from the four corners of the earth Caribbean Context / Issue: Caribbean churches are working together to heal the wounds caused by colonization. There has been some repentance and reparation, leading to reconciliation and healing (one example: in May 2008, a British Baptist delegation offered apology for the historical role of their members in the slave trade). The Church is called to be a sign and agent of reconciliation. Biblical Reflection: Isaiah 11:12-13; Psalm 106:1-14, 43-48; Ephesians 2:13-19; John 17:1-12 The concept of covenant runs throughout the biblical narrative: a relationship with God based on mutual love and characterized by justice, compassion and mercy. Jesus is our new covenant, calling us to live as reconciled communities, signs of justice and peace for the world. Questions for Discussion: 1. What does it mean to make a covenant with God? 2. Imagine what it would be like in our neighbourhoods, towns and cities if we lived as God's people.
