Our friends at Ducharme Motors inspired us with their Bonnyville business challenge. Jody and JF dropped by the C2 center this morning and matched the $1000 donation made by the folks from Ducharme yesterday to help the Bonnyville Baptist Church replace their stolen trailer and bouncy houses, an approximated replacement value of $50 000!!! We have again noticed a spike in vehicle theft in the area. It seems that pick up trucks are the thieves favorite targets these days. Many people are unaware that once your stolen vehicle is recovered by the RCMP, the registered owner is left liable for the towing and recovery charges which can be considerable as many stolen vehicles are left in the woods with no keys and lots of times, extensive damage making it a chore for our crew to recover. To avoid being stuck with a heavy tow bill, we suggest you contact your insurance provider and confirm that you have theft insurance on your vehicle. Contrary to general belief, it isn't included in your basic coverage, or in the collision package either. Theft insurance is often part of a package called "comprehensive coverage" which likely includes fire, theft, vandalism and animal hits and is relatively inexpensive. Lastly, don't make your vehicle an easy target. Remove all valuables and lock your doors. If you are going on holidays and are leaving a vehicle behind, consider parking it at a friend's or family member's house where it will be monitored while you are away.
