Chartier is a rustic, French-Canadian restaurant located in the heart of Beaumont, AB. Opening March, 2016! Chartier is a rustic, French-Canadian Restaurant that is set to open January 2016.

It was partially funded via Kickstarter, backed by members of the community, friends and family.

The Name

In 1895, when Beaumont was nothing more than a small French colony, Father Morin travelled to Ottawa to petition for a post office. With this petition, he presented a list of suggested names to give to the community. These were: "Chartier", "Bellevue", and "Beaumont". Beaumont was selected by Jean Royer for the town, Bellevue was later used for our elementary school, and Chartier remained unused............Until now.

Food

The food will be an elevated take on rustic French-Canadian favourites. Picture tourtiere better than your mamere's (sorry mamere), served with a slice of freshly baked homemade bread and a bold bourdeaux.  Local duck roasted in our homegrown herbs. The food will be for EVERYONE. Not frilly and pretentious, just wholesome local ingredients that taste amazing and fill your belly.  You will leave FULL. No flowers on your plate. Not over stylized. Just good hearty FOOD.

Though we love food, we're smart enough to know we need experts to help us design the perfect menu and get our kitchen up and running. That's why we've enlisted the help of Brad Lazarenko and Yvan Chartrand.

Brad is the founder of Culina Family of Restaurants. The Culinas Family consists of some of Edmonton’s staples in the dining community: Culina Millcreek, Culina Cafe at the Muttart, BiBO Winebar and Culina Catering. On top of all that, Brad’s also been helping other restaurateurs behind the scenes, providing consultation support to many well known restaurants & bars such as MKT, Café Bicyclette, and Sugar Bowl. He is Edmonton’s pioneer for locally sourced produce & community building, making him a natural match for our endeavor.

It's hard to serve authentic french food without authentic french bread, that's why we've turned to Yvan Chartrand for help. Chartrand runs Boulangerie Bonjour with his wife, Ritsuko, and their 28-year-old son, Kenny. Bonjour Bakery recently beat out 11 other Canadian bakeries for Baker's Journal Business Innovation Award. His passion for the craft is unparalleled, and he expertly combines the science and art of baking to produce the best baguette you've probably ever tasted.

Drink

Good food deserves good drink, so we'll be sure you don't leave thirsty.

Our wine list will be extensive but not overbearing. A mix of old world varietals and local BC vineyards. Questions about wine? Does it make you nervous? Not at Chartier. We will be open to educating those who aren't sure where to start as well as making good wine affordable and accessible.

We plan on sourcing as many locally crafted brews as possible to give an alternative to mainstream national brands. A handful of unique scotches, ryes, whiskeys and other spirits will be available for those looking for something a bit stiffer - served in one of Chartier's signature muddled cocktails or customize to your liking.
