Boys Program | David Hatfield
This week marks the beginning of an opportunity that we will be providing for our boys. Thank you, Trish, for organizing a series of workshops for students currently in gr 9-12. The series is led by David Hatfield, a facilitator who works with kids to consider what masculinity means today. It's a pretty big topic, of course, and students will learn about rites of passage that boys used to experience & explore what that looks like now on the path to manhood. We want to invest in our boys, as it is very important that we are meeting their needs and keeping them engaged over time. The series begins this spring and continues into the fall. We are grateful for the sponsorship of the Local Action Team, funded by the Ministry of Health & Doctors of BC.
How to Talk to Kids About Death -
Just a reminder that the first day back for students is Tuesday, April 4. Staff will be in session tomorrow as teachers collaborate around the implementation of the revised curriculum, but there is no school for students. No Sunday phone call today, as there are no announcements this week. We believe that our families have heard the terribly sad news about the Volaine/Penner family in Ashcroft. We trust that you have already talked to your children about what happened, and we will be working with staff and a support team to address the questions that students will have when they return to school on Tuesday. We all feel so deeply saddened about Kaylex and Ay, who were two beautiful, beautiful boys, and we will support students as they work through their feelings, and potentially their fears, over the next while. Please let us know if your child is struggling in a way that concerns you.

Could someone share this post with Yvonne Lewis, Stacey Parsons and Nicole Patterson? The DSCS kids' initial interest in visiting Ancient Greece and Rome came from their Grade 7/8 experiences learning about Mesopotamia and doing projects on ancient civilizations. Ummm, not sure why Hunter Beckett's six pack was required but I think it was to demonstrate other hard work he has done since grade 7 - or maybe he's showing the physique of the Greek gods? The road to Delphi is in the background. And we are on the road, too. We are currently in Calgary, waiting to board our final flight. Nearly home!
