ENG/ Today is the international day of women’s rights. So let’s pay a tribute to Georgette Berger. She is known to be the main model of Magritte, his muse, and we see her portrait worldwide. But, even though she never participated directly to the surrealist creation, she was much more than a model: she worked for years in a shop to meet the needs of the couple, she took care of the household, and Magritte always asked her advice in financial matters. Let’s not forget this invisible work which nevertheless helped Magritte’s career. At the museum, we have one of the few surrealists works in which she participated: a surrealist rug that Magritte designed with a poem of Paul Nougé, and which was knotted by Georgette. We also want to pay tribute to the women close to the surrealist group of Brussels: the journalist Irène Hamoir, and the artists Jane Graverol and Rachel Baes. We have two painting of those two female artists in our collection. FR/ Aujourd’hui, journée internationale des droits des femmes, nous tenions à rendre hommage à Georgette Berger. Cette femme est surtout connue pour être le principal modèle de Magritte, sa muse, et l’on voit son portrait à travers le monde. Pourtant, si elle n’a pas participé directement à la création surréaliste, elle était bien plus qu’un modèle : elle a travaillé durant des années dans un magasin pour subvenir aux besoins du ménage, elle s’occupait de toutes les tâches ménagères et pratiques traditionnellement attribuées aux femmes. Elle fut la principale conseillère de Magritte pour tous les aspects financiers du couple. N’oublions pas ces tâches invisibles, qui ont cependant bien aidé la carrière de Magritte. Nous possédons l’une des seules œuvres à laquelle Georgette a participé, à savoir un tapis que Magritte a dessiné avec un poème de Paul Nougé, et noué par Goergette. Nous tenons également à rendre hommage aux femmes proches du groupe surréaliste bruxelloise : la journaliste Irène Hamoir et les artistes Jane Graverol et Rachel Baes. Nous possédons par ailleurs deux tableaux de ces artistes dans notre collection. NL/ Vandaag, op internationale vrouwendag, brengen we hulde aan Georgette Berger. Deze dame is vooral bekend als echtgenote van Magritte, zijn muse, en we zien haar portret over de hele wereld. Hoewel ze nooit direct deelnam aan de surrealistische creatie, was ze veel meer dan model: ze werkte jarenlang als winkelbediende om te voorzien in de behoeften van het koppel, ze droeg haar steentje bij aan het huishouden en Magritte vroeg haar altijd om raad als het op financiële zaken aankwam. Laten we dit onzichtbare werk niet vergeten, dat de carrière van Magritte enorm heeft voortgestuwd! In het museum hebben wij één van de weinige surrealistische werken waaraan zij meewerkte, meer bepaald een tapijt dat Magritte tekende, met een gedicht van Paul Nougé, gewoven door Georgette. Wij brengen ook hulde aan de vrouwen die dicht stonden bij de surrealistische groep van Brussel: de journaliste Irène Hamoir en de kunstenaressen Jane Graverol en Rachel Baes. Wij hebben twee schilderijen van deze twee kunstenaressen in onze collectie.

This kind of landscape have certainly inspired some Magritte's paintings. ENG/ It seems surprising but this little dining room have seen the birth of 800 Magritte's work, so half of his work! FR/ Cela peut paraître surprenant, mais cette petite salle à manger a vu naître 800 oeuvres de Magritte, soit la moitié de son oeuvre!
