My passion for Pilates began five years ago when I was disillusioned by the constant injury I incurred through other forms of exercise. I was in search of a workout that would work in harmony with my body and fell in love with reformer Pilates. It allowed me to exercise in a horizontal plane of motion and not vertically load and weight bear while my body recovered from injury. Reformer Pilates sped up my recovery process through controlled movement and strengthened my muscles through a larger range of motion. I saw immediate results and truly believe it is because of Reformer Pilates that I am now able to engage in other forms of exercise without incurring further injury.
I employ an evidence based approach to my teaching and realise that every body is different and every body moves differently. As a qualified Pilates Instructor I am committed to teaching you exercises that are tailored to your body’s needs. Through experience-informed insights I will modify and vary exercises, making them easier or harder, so that they are appropriate for you, adjust alignment, and employ techniques for fulfilling all exercises in a varied and unique exercise environment.
My priority will be YOU! In getting to know you I will facilitate and design a workout plan in collaboration with rather than exclusion of you. Through focussed one-on-one attention I will keep your Pilates practice fresh to keep it interesting and to continue to challenge your body.
This functional approach will benefit your daily life activities, connect your mind with your body and promote overall well-being!
What is a Pilates Reformer?
The Pilates reformer is a traditional piece of Pilates equipment which looks like a bed with springs, a sliding carriage, ropes and pulleys.
On first encounter, many people (including myself initially) are quite scared of the reformer as it looks quite intimidating and almost medieval. However, put your fears aside because after just one or two workouts on the reformer you will realise that it is the most versatile and effective piece of exercise equipment ever made…and it’s fun.
The reformer is used to incorporate the Pilates exercise technique for a challenging, intense and dynamic workout. It uses the springs, pulleys, bars & straps to perform over 500 exercises in a variety of positions.
Leverage and body weight are used as resistance while performing movements targeting specific muscle groups. Workouts consist of controlled, flowing movements working your muscles through a full range of motion. The reformer adds increased resistance to this movement. By working to overcome this resistance, the reformer can train many parts and dynamics of the body with just one relatively sleek piece of equipment.
