Well what a week it has been....art culture iconic places and events all been in the news and up for debate at council with the latest round of budget talks in discussion. With the threat of closure and defunding of key Victor Harbor projects and events and places the vibrancy dial was looking very much like it was to be turned right down but with the pressure of local community, social media and the wider media seems all will stay as is for a while at least. NOW is the time to make the case for Victor to dial UP the arts culture and events. This is what makes a place hum and vibe and be a place people want to stay, come and visit so there is a BIG case for MORE arts culture and events not less. Last nights speech by renowned local Film Producer and Director Scott Hicks at the official launch of the Granite Island project was inspirational and I hope the staff, elected members and wider community there let his words sink in. I may not like everything about the building proposed for GI but it is a grand plan and a bold vision. For me personally I do not like the tower aspect of the building at all. Get rid of that and I will give my full endorsement. There was meant to be an announcement suggesting the whale centre moving into the derelict kiosk but that did not happen. I personally do not think this should happen. I personally would like the VIC to move into the existing whale centre. Save on the renting of that building and incorporate the staff into one entity and spend the capital on the lovely old building, add the disabled lift and Fix it up! Extend the shop space to facilitate the VIC merch and add a small cafe feature, get a small contractor to run that. Invite the Duck Boat to have their office in their as well, the new owner would be open to that as we discussed it last night. Get a well qualified management committee on board and flick the council in terms of running the place. Extend the membership and research and education facilities. Turn the whaletime playtime event into more than just a kids thing...make it a levianthanic community event! SO much could and can be done. This is a major opportunity for Victor to get off its arts and get cracking! Enjoy your Easter weekend everyone and come done to Victa the weather and surf looks like it will be amazing!! Oh and The Artisan Market will be on Saturday under the glorious Moreton Bay Figs and there will be plenty to see and do and great things to spend your $$ on!! :-D See you all then!!

Eden Whale Festival
This is how they do it in Eden. I would love to see our festival pitched at the whole community not just kids.
