There is still one more seat available for the Silkie Bantam/ Cockerel Chicken Workshop this Sunday the 31st of July. The cut off date for this class will be tomorrow (Thursday) as I need a few days to get everything ready. This class is for beginners - you will need not have completed any prior class or know anything about taxidermy to participate. It is simply unnecessary and unjustified. It will also be conducted over one day. No harsh chemicals are used in this class - just water and a saline solution if required to soften the skin during the mounting stage. To express your interest please send me an email at stephen.g.pegg@gmail.com or simply send a PM over FB. Your teacher for the day will be Stephen Pegg - an award winning bird taxidermist and son of world champion bird taxidermist - Gary Pegg. Price: $300 What you get: Your own Silkie Bantam or Cockerel Chicken to work on and take home. The choice is yours! Included: Lunch and light refreshments Feel free to take notes and snap as many reference photos as you like! Class will begin at 9am and finish at approximately 5pm. *Picture taken at one of our previous workshops at Daseti Cafe by Daseti* #taxidermy #learntaxidermy #melbourne #taxidermyclasses #uniquemelbourne

Well people this is the result. After a week of drying and some minor paintwork it is safe to say that it has exceeded my expectations. I hope you enjoyed following this project and I will be starting another one soon so stay tuned! If you would like to learn how to create something like this, I am running a introductory bird class on Sunday the 31st of July where I will be teaching the fundamentals of bird taxidermy. Later on in the year I will be conducting a Golden/ Ringneck pheasant class where you will learn some more advanced techniques as well as being able to take something like this home for yourself. If you are interested don't hesitate to contact me on stephen.g.pegg@gmail.com to secure a spot on Sunday - Steve

In case you're wondering what is going on in this photo - before cameras were invented, taxidermists used to refer to reference materials drawn/ painted by wildlife artists and as a result many taxidermy mounts used to resemble what was illustrated by the artist which is why this honeyeater is mounted in the same pose as seen in the illustration.

Cotton wool is a great way to make feathers stay in place during the drying phase. Exotic specimens like this Golden Pheasant require special techniques to achieve characteristic anatomical traits #taxidermy
