Airpocalypse ends
An incredible time-lapse video of the intense pollution "airpocalypse" in Beijing last week from our Greenpeace friends in China. Watch as the smog leaves Beijing, filmed from the top of one of Beijing's tallest building. December 16-21, Beijing launched a smog red alert for the first time this season. On the last day, the smoggy skies were completely transformed in less than 24 hours. Air quality in eastern China improved dramatically in 2014 and 2015, with the national air pollution action plan coming into force, cuts in coal use and enforcement of new emission standards for power plants and industry. The change was fast and visible – a 20% fall in PM2.5 levels in just two years. But the air in November was worse than a year ago – the second month in a row after a long streak of improvements. Check out these amazing young environmentalists - Lizzie, Sophie and Lily, busking at the South Melbourne Market to raise money for Greenpeace's Save the Reef campaign. Together, they managed to raise $50, which they hope will help to increase awareness about the threats our beautiful Reef is facing from coal pollution and climate change. What an inspiring example of young people taking action for our planet!
