28,000 people came to enjoy the sunshine and music in The Domain yesterday. It was the 17th year of FIELD DAY. Well done to the hundreds of enthusiastic customers who rushed to do our Red Cross drug & alcohol harm-minimisation course. There was a very large police presence including sniffer dogs. 167 people (0.6% of attendees) were caught. There were 205 last year & 184 the year before. 7 people visited the medical tent for drug related issues (14 last year and 19 the year before). We would like to thank all stakeholders who made Field Day possible including The Royal Botanic Gardens, NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, ISEC Security, Colbrow Medics and Red Cross.

Celebrate New Year’s safely! New Year’s is the biggest celebration of the year and for 17 years, FIELD DAY has been Sydney’s biggest New Year’s music event. We want to help you celebrate safely. Increasing safety awareness in our community is a priority for us. The best defence against harm from alcohol and other drugs is education and peer support. This year we have trained more than 3000 customers, event and bar staff in specific harm minimisation strategies including: How to identify symptoms of intoxication or adverse reaction; How to respond in an emergency situation. Would you know what to do? At Field Day tomorrow, we are offering free entry to the VIP area for the first 100 patrons to complete harm minimisation training at the Red Cross tent (next to Medical). Head there when you arrive. Police / Drug dogs: As with most festivals, there will be a very large drug dog operation at Field Day. Police will be targeting all patrons and prosecuting anyone found with drugs. After most festivals the police send out a press release stating how many people were caught with drugs on them. Last year 205 people (0.7% of attendees) were caught. The number of people who visited the medical tent for issues likely to have been drug related was 14. In running Field Day, we work closely with local authorities at the highest level and we ask you also play a part. What can you do? • Look after your friends. • If you see someone looking unwell, tell a security guard. • Take note of where the Medical tent is at the event. • Stay hydrated: Free water is available from all bars and multiple water refill outlets. • Have rests in the shade throughout the day. • Don’t try to buy illegal drugs at the event. • Get free harm minimisation training at the Red Cross tent - it only takes 10 minutes. • If you’re at home or a private party and someone seems unwell, don’t leave them alone or wait for them to sleep it off: call an ambulance. Media: Media stories often portray music festivals as being all about drugs. If you are interviewed by a news crew, you can support music culture by telling the people of Australia about what festivals really mean to you: Being with friends and listening to high quality music from around the world. Note on pill testing: At this stage pill testing isn’t legal in NSW.

Morning all, Unfortunately, due to severe tonsillitis, Princess Nokia is unable to perform at Field Day. She is devastated that she isn’t able to perform for her Australian fans. As you can imagine we’re all upset with this news. However, our touring department have been working around the clock to resolve this and we’re very impressed with what they have achieved. Especially so close to the event. We are proud to welcome to the Field Day 2018 line up: BIG SHAQ (aka comedian Michael Dapaah) AND Running Touch!!! SET TIMES HAVE CHANGED A LOT.
