As we have been welcoming new families into our service this week, we have heard the word "home-like" being used to describe our environments. It's nice to know that families connect with our place as a place with heart, and a place for family....and it's always interesting hearing the children wondering where our bedrooms are (bless).
Want happier, calmer kids? Simplify their world.
We agree that 'less is more' when organising our learning environments. Children engage more purposefully with resources when they're not overwhelmed by too many choices. "Children are happiest and flourish when they have the time and space to explore their world without the constraints of “too much.”"
Something tells us the most exciting days are still ahead! Happy New Year, from all of us here at Red Hill 🎉

The Steiner Rainbow is a popular resource at Red Hill. The stacking toy is designed to encourage open ended play... a child can use the coloured components as building blocks or to model worlds of their own invention. GOMA currently have a large scale installation of a Steiner Rainbow by Australian artist Emily Floyd as part of their GOMA turns 10 exhibition...let us know if you check it out! #GT10

Some days, goodbyes are hard. We have quiet spaces where children can spend some time self settling as they draw a picture, read a book, play with leggo, or just relax. The development of emotional regulation is an important part of learning for young children, and a valuable skill for school and life.

One of the exciting things about our local community is our neighbours and their very interesting vehicles! It's not an uncommon sight to see our children lined up, noses poking through the fence as they watch the landscape company over the road unloading their heavy machinery. It's an added bonus when the driver toots his horn for us! 🚜🚚
