Great to be at Mornington Primary School this morning to see progress on construction of a major new building. $5 million was allocated in the last budget to Mornington Primary for a major - and much needed - refurbishment of the school. It's good to see that construction is on schedule.

First day back at Parliament. The Legislative Council debated and unanimously passed a condolence motion in relation to the Bourke Street tragedy. The motion expressed sorrow and grief for the victims and their families and paid tribute to first responders and the broader community. As the Deputy Leader of the Government said, love is stronger than hate in this city.

Congratulations to the AFL Womens Competition on an amazing first round. Huge crowds and exciting, high quality play. This is truly a breakthrough event. Also great to see Carlton Football Club get a win in the inaugural game.

A huge congratulations to all of the new students at John Henry Primary School in Pakenham. It was very exciting to be able to attend the first day of classes with the Minister for Education, James Merlino and the entire school community including students, parents, teachers and the very dedicated school leadership group led by Principal Tanya Roberts. The new buildings are amazing - but of course it is the people and the sense of community that will really make this school a special environment for learning. It's a sign of how fast this community is growing that this school is almost at capacity on day one.

Great to be in Officer this afternoon on behalf of the Minister for Major Projects, Jacinta Allan, for a sod turn on construction of the extension of Siding Avenue. This important road project completes a missing link in Officer and will provide direct and safe access for students at Officer Secondary College and the broader community to the train station and town centre. The government has invested $1.9 million in this project which should be completed by May.

Great to be able to attend the Pride March 2017, which was led again by the Premier, Daniel Andrews. Congratulations to the organisers and to the huge turnout in the community. Many State and Federal MPs were in attendance along with a contingent of around 100 from the Labor Party. This reflects this government's and the ALP's broader commitment to the rights of the LGBTI community.

A big thank you to the Tyabb Cricket Club, Victoria Police and the Luke Batty Foundation for organising the 2nd Annual Luke Batty Memorial 20-20 cricket game. The home team won in a very close contest. It was an honour to be able to represent Fiona Richardson, the Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence, at the event.

Had a very enjoyable break, but it's good to be back at parliament. I hope that everyone is safe around the State as the temperature rises today.

This morning it was a great pleasure to visit the Lord Somers Camp on behalf of the Premier, Daniel Andrews. The Lord Somers Camp is a wonderful instituton that has been operating for over 80 years. It provides an intense and highly valuable experience for 100 young men aged 16-19 each year (there is also a camp for 100 young women) that teaches leadership, teamwork and independence. Well done to the participants - who I saw wholeheartedly throwing themselves into a range of activities - and also to the well over 100 volunteers who make the Big Camp possible.
