Pest Fact # 1: Termite Treatments Is your home protected from expensive termite damage? When your house was constructed, termiticide chemical was applied beneath the slab to protect it from termite attack via the penetrations and any cracks in the slab. Then again when the site clean was completed, it was treated with termiticide chemical up against the edge of the slab / brickwork before the paving or landscaping was installed to provide a treated zone or barrier around the house to prevent concealed entry by termites. The treatment underneath the slab is referred to as the ‘A’ section barrier and The treatment around the perimeter of the house as the ‘B’ section barrier. In Perth these treatments can be done at a concentration rate of 0.5% which means that there is 500ml of chemical in each 100 litres of water applied to protect your home. At this rate the chemical is good for up to 10 years in ideal conditions. (According to the manufacturer of the chemical). So, if your house is older than 10 years, it is not protected from termite attack as the chemical has passed its use by date. Australian Standards recommend that you have termite inspections carried out on you home at least annually to prevent termites from doing $000’s of dollars of damage which you are not insured for. The cost to have an annual termite inspection done can be as little as $180.00 and is one of those costs……like insurance that you really can’t afford not to spend.
