CAMS Was happy to host some wonderful school holiday craft sessions for Women and Children. There were lots of birthday celebrations too. CAMS continues to be a wonderful opportunity for migrant women to meet new friends, share similar experiences of new life in Australia with others and connect to the Mount Isa community. We are so proud at CAMS of all our Women who give 110 per cent to the group. Special congratulations to those completing their Taffe English Classes and Special congratulations to all those women now in gainful employment/training. Peter and Rochele Hargreaves have lived Mount Isa since January 2016 with their gorgeous little girl Avyanna . In the type of work that they do (managing motels means they have to move where the work is available), they don’t own a physical home. They want their daughter Avyanna to grow up as normal and stable as possible with all the moving around, so the idea of owning a home they can tow with them (a caravan) was a fantastic idea until they realised that the size they needed was too big for their car. So Plan B was to purchase a Bus and convert it into their family home. At 11.30pm on July 5, 2016 Peter heard voices outside their bedroom window a bang and then flames. Peter raced outside with bare feet, had walked over broken glass from the bus… his feet were cut and blistered from the heat of the flames. It happened so quickly and there is nothing that he could do. Their family home to be was burnt to the ground (with less than 2 weeks before it was finished) – they have lost everything that has been invested into this important family project over the past 3 months including the bus… Tradespeople still have to be paid for work that they did on the bus but there is nothing to show for anyone’s hard work. Sometimes devastating things happen to wonderful people… CAMS and the Good Shepherd Catholic Parish is supporting the Hargreaves family in their fundraiser. What a wonderful Wednesday at CAMS. Inspired by Fathers Day just passed the CAMS women decided to make a gift for their husbands/partners to thank them for their support and love and to celebrate together their new life journeys in Australia. Thankyou to the men of CAMS for all you do to support your beautiful women and your families.
