We are so proud of the effort from our girls who were involved in International Competitions and Assessment for Schools (ICAS)! The students received high distinctions but were further recognised with a medal for their outstanding achievements – they were part of a select few students who received a top score. Evie Hewitt (Year 4 English), Lillie Sartori (Year 5, Mathematics) and Sophie Lim (Year 8, Mathematics) received their medals at an official ceremony at Government House surrounded by family and School Representatives.

Reflecting on their time in Junior School and their ideas about education, our Year 6 artists have completed a Public Art project using materials of their choice to visualise their concepts. The girls were tasked with creating a piece of artwork that embodies their time in primary school and show where a full-sized version would fit on the Junior School grounds. Giulia’s artwork “The Hand” illustrates the multiculturalism, cooperation and harmony at St Hilda’s, while Zali’s statue “A Futuresque Friendship” explores the idea of friendship between St Hilda’s girls and how everyone works together to achieve a goal. Lara’s colourful piece “The Bubbles of the Future” demonstrates each St Hilda’s girl has experienced and what they are yet to experience.

The Junior School was abuzz with smiling new faces today at our orientation morning, where we welcome incoming parents and their children. Future students and their parents visited our purpose-built Early Learning Centre and Junior School grounds, meeting their teachers and getting familiar with the wide open spaces and learning environment that they are soon to thrive in. There are still limited spaces available in our Junior School for 2017: contact Enrolments for more information on 9285 4100.

Now here’s something to wear when you’re not in the shade of the coolabah tree! After reading the Australian classic children’s book Possum Magic, our Year 5 and Pre Primary students worked together to create some funky Australian animal-themed hats for their Christmas celebration. The Pre Primary children chose an animal and began thinking about their design, then Year 5s joined in to help guide and support them through the process. We think they look very stylish in their hats – Grandma Poss would be proud. How many different Australian animals can you recognise?

On the 11th day of the 11th month at 11am, the guns blazing on the Western Front finally fell silent. Our Year 6 officials led a remembrance ceremony, marking the 98th anniversary of the armistice. Today we remember those who gave their life for their country, and those who lived with the memories of horrendous conditions and tragedy. Today we wear our poppies with pride and reflection.
