FSA Rising Star Michael Gaal in Europe Former Football Star Academy Elite Squad player Michael Gaal is increasingly gaining the attention of professional clubs internationally. After being selected for regional, state and national representational squads in Australia, Michael headed overseas with his family to pursue his childhood dream of playing in Europe. Michael kicked off his international début with the youth team at Division 1 club Hamrun Spartans FC in Malta, where his team sealed the season by securing 2nd place in the MFA Youth Knock-Out Cup. He was then invited to train with Superleague clubs in Serbia and Greece. At the commencement of the new season, Michael was signed by Premier Division club Pembroke Athleta FC, where he has been playing for the youth team and has recently also been invited to train with the first team. In his first twelve months overseas, Michael has had some great experiences and says that the secret of his success so far is to keep learning and developing as a player. "My current coach is a UEFA Pro Coach from Spain who recently played in La Liga and I've met so many players from different countries who have shared their experiences with me. I have been studying for my UEFA C Licence and Personal Training certification, which has contributed significantly to my own knowledge and development, and I have coached younger players at both my clubs. When my own coach went abroad for a couple of weeks, he, the club management and my teammates all asked me to train the youth team while the coach was away, which was a great privilege and challenge." Both Michael and his family credit at least part of his ongoing success to his time at Football Star Academy. "I knew I wanted to become a professional player from a young age," Michael told us. "While I played for some good clubs and coaches in Australia, the truth is that training twice a week just wasn't enough, especially when kids in Europe are training every day. I was doing my own additional training and even playing futsal but I feel very lucky that my parents found Football Star Academy so that I could have a structured training program with coaches of the calibre of former Manchester United player Jesper Olsen. The other positive thing about FSA was that all the other players were also very motivated to train and play hard but without the pressure of having to perform for results in league tables. Club training and academy training at FSA was the perfect combination. I can honestly say that not only did I really enjoy my time at FSA, it's one of the reasons why I am where I am today." The next stop on the young Australian export's journey is Hungary, where he plans to continue his professional development. We are sure we'll be hearing more about this rising young football star in the future.
