This post by Lyndi Cohen is the bomb! The only effective way of loosing weight and keep it off is by slowly making lifestyle changes. As a Health & Wellness Coach this exactly what I help people do. Lyndi's advise: * Accept that forming new lifestyle habits takes time and happens gradually. * To lose weight really quickly, you need to track your intake with ninja-like precision and guard everything that enters your mouth. Because your metabolism slows, you really do have to be 'strict'. Is that really how you want to live for the rest of you life? * Ignore the temptation to control every morsel of food that goes into your mouth. Some weeks you will lose weight, and some you will regain some of your weight loss. The difference between people who successful lose weight and keep it off is acceptance than weight loss is not fast, and weight loss is not linear. * Don't even focus on weight loss! Just focus on eating well. The rest will follow. Focus on the habit and how good you feel - not a number on a scale. * Don’t expect to lose a kilo a week. Personally, I would much prefer to lose a kilo a month (or every 3 months), and never put it back on again then to constantly yo-yo diet. Fast weight-loss and then the inevitable regain is not good for your body... or soul. * If you have lost weight quickly, do not wear it as a badge of honour until you have kept it off for 2+ years. It may come back to bite you in the bum. (My favourite) * Be weary of anyone trying to sell you FAST weight loss. If I were you, I'd call their bluff. Don't give them your money. In addition to this, often "wellness" products are marketed using poor quality or non-replicated research studies that supports their product claim. I am a great believer in the importance of looking after our mental health, yet often most of us don't pay much attention to this area of our health unless confronted with mentally illness. However as our mental health, that is our psychological and emotional wellness, affects every aspect of our life including: • How we feel about ourselves and the world around us • Our ability to participate in society, maintain relationships, and live a fulfilling life • Our ability to relax and enjoy ourselves • Our overall health and well-being maybe it is time we all placed more emphasis on taking care of our minds. Here's a list of things we can do to foster and support good mental health: • Exercise regularly • Practice mindfulness techniques which may include meditation • Get sufficient sleep • Eat a healthy diet with at least 5 serves of veggies a day • Have self-compassion • Practice self-forgiveness • Reflect mindfully on events and learn from our experiences • Implement stress management or stress reduction strategies • Participate in counseling/therapy • Build a support network • Contribute positively to society And if you are really struggling please speak to your GP. There is no shame in seeking help, or taking medication for that matter, if you need it.

I'm loving my new trainers. They are like walking/running on air. Can't wait to get out there this morning and pound the pavement. The Australia Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines recommend we accumulate 150 to 300 minutes (2 ½ to 5 hours) of moderate intensity physical activity or 75 to 150 minutes (1 ¼ to 2 ½ hours) of vigorous intensity physical activity, or an equivalent combination of both moderate and vigorous activities, each week. Do muscle strengthening activities on at least 2 days each week. Are you planning to move your body today?
