Description

ad

No drama group existed in the local Strathmore area at the time S.T.A.G., an unsubsidised amateur theatre company, was formed in 1954 - 1955.

The inaugural first meeting of twelve members was held in the home of Mary & Ron Little of Bruce St - two members of which (Ivy Walker & Mary Little) remain actively involved.

The site of its initial productions (And This Was Odd, Poison Pen & Here We Come Gathering) was at the St. John's Presbyterian Church Hall in Essendon, until the permanent purpose-built facility was organised through the Strathmore Community Association.

STAG's aim - then as it is now - is to bring together people of similar interests & to provide a true community theatre where members can share their talents & abilities in diverse fields of performance.

Over the years we have continued to present quality productions for the enjoyment of all & thank our patrons, audiences, players & crew for their ongoing support & dedication.

We look forward to seeing you at our next show!

Gail Armstrong (President)

Very pleased to introduce you to the next Dixie Chick - the gal with the best pins in the West, Ms. Dawn Hinrichsen as Vernadette Simms. The Dixie Swim Club opens May 25 and runs til June 4. Book now: 9382 6284 or Book Now at the top of this page. Dawn’s theatre journey started at STAG at the age of 8 where she was involved in many pantomimes and melodramas. Her parents, David and Eileen Hinrichsen, were founding members of the Essendon Theatre Company, where she has been involved since the age of 14 and is the current President. Over the years, Dawn has acted, danced and sung her way through various theatre companies. Favourite roles include: Olive, “Summer of the Seventeenth Doll” - Mount Players, Clare “Rumours” – STAG, Truvy “Steel Magnolias” - ETC, Sandy “Minefields and Miniskirts” - Mount Players, Flick “Daylight Saving” – STAG, Nina “Scenes from a Separation” - ETC , Karen “Jakes Women” - ETC. Behind the scenes she has directed, produced, stage managed, choreographed and assisted with the many and varied roles involved in running a theatre. Dawn is very happy to be working with Kris Weber again as she always makes the rehearsal process a fulfilling and interesting journey from casting to performance. Vernadette is a very complex character as are all the characters in “The Dixie Swim Club”. She has a challenging home life, to say the least, but tries to stay positive and upbeat on the one weekend of the year that she gets to leave it all behind her and enjoy the company of her dear friends. She is excited to be working with such talented and delightful women who make the journey of these Dixie women come to life.

Please meet the wonderfully talented Gabby Llewelyn Salter as Dinah Grayson in STAG's upcoming production, The Dixie Swim Club - a beautiful play about five women, their life-long friendship and all the stuff in-between. Bookings: 9382 6284 or click the book now button on this page. Gabby was far too shy to get into drama school at her first attempt at uni but after drinking enough beer, travelling and working in jobs as varied as veterinary science and corporate accounts she faced her fears and went back to school. She has trained in a bizarrely random variety of places for a South Australian: Townsville, Cape Town & London. It has been a fabulous Non-Plan Plan and she cherishes the people she’s loved and the skills she’s developed along the way. Things slowed down somewhat career-wise when her two boys were born but when they started walking round the house nude, wearing her high heels and declaring “I’m going to rehearsal,” she knew she was top parenting material. Gabby has had the good fortune to work with many well respected, talented – and dare she say, sexy people in film and theatre such as: Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Peridot), Speaking In Tongues (Warrandyte), Bombshells (Warrandyte), Enchanted April (Heidelberg), The Death Of Peter Pan (Chapel off Chapel), Boy (Simon Trevorrow), Trois Coins, (French with English subtitles -Louis du Toit). Gabby won Best Actress for her role as Sophie in V.D. at Eltham’s Quickies Festival.
