A letter from the Officer Commanding. 2017 has been a busy but successful year for 502 Army Cadet Unit. This year saw us implement the new Cadet Development Continuum which has modernised our training and provided the Australian Army Cadets and 502ACU with many new training opportunities. These opportunities will be seen more next year as the Electives of the new continuum are fully released. We further implemented Unit Field Exercises which were not all joint activities, this came after feedback from our personnel in the 2016 review. These activities enabled our NCO’s and cadets to further expand their capabilities and skills within a field environment. We introduced a new concept to the unit in a Barracks Training weekend; this style of weekend brings with it a whole new set of skills. All the activities proved successful and were received positively by all members. We have further developed our Rank Structure and provided many opportunities for our members to step up into leadership roles. We have also provided opportunities for those that haven’t completed leadership training to step into leadership roles and experience what is required to be a leader within the unit and the Australian Army Cadets. We have also said goodbye to a few of our members. We have said good bye to CUO WHELAN, CDTWO2 FERGUSON & CPL GREEN we wish these members well in their future endeavors. We hope to see you back around the unit at some stage. I need to thank all our cadets for their hard work this year. It is your efforts that have allowed us to develop and be in such a great position for 2018. I also need to thank our NCO’s, you are the back bone of the unit and put in huge amounts of effort to make sure that we deliver our training effectively and efficiently to our cadets. I need to thank CAPT(AAC) WILSON for his continued support this year, he provides great assistance to myself and also the cadets of the unit. I need to acknowledge the assistance of various ACS this year that have assisted 502ACU with Unit Activities and other events throughout the year. Your continued assistance and support is greatly appreciated and certainly does not go unnoticed. Finally I wish to thank all our parents and guardians, a lot is expected of you throughout the year with dropping off and picking up of your Son/Daughter from different locations and at different times. Your efforts and assistance with this is greatly appreciated and allows us to be such a great unit. I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I look forward to what 2018 brings us as a unit. Regards Original Signed A.M. O’CONNOR Captain(AAC) Officer Commanding 502 Army Cadet Unit. 15 December 2017

On the weekend 08 - 10 December 2017 502 Army Cadet Unit held its End of Year Activity in Busselton. This activity is a chance for the cadets to unwind whilst having fun. The cadets took part in a High Ropes Course which proved a challenge for some especially those who were afraid of heights. We then moved on to Dunsborough and visited Ngilgi cave. That afternoon saw the cadets take part in swimming and potted sports around Legacy Camp before having a Dining In Night. Sunday morning saw a quick trip to Margaret River before moving on to Millers Ice Cream Farm and the Margaret River Chocolate Factory. A great weekend was had by all. It was a brilliant way to end the training year.
