Thank you and congratulations to the outstanding day surgery, operating theatre, infection control and surgical ward staff at the Grafton Base Hospital. It is time for a bit of recognition! Due to your professionalism and attention to detail there has been another whole year of low infection rates for orthopaedic patients. We are actually coming up to 5 years of hip and knee replacement surgery with very very low infection rates for the hospital. That is a real achievement as that includes the start up phase where operations were done at the hospital for the first time. Well done and thanks for putting up with my fussiness!

Please read Dr Genon's response to your warm Clarence Valley welcome:
Dr Michel Genon starts work at the Grafton Surgical Clinic on the 16th of Jan 2017. He has patients booked in to see him already and can't wait to start! Referrals can be sent to him at the Grafton Surgical Clinic. He will operate up at the Grafton Base Hospital. He joins Dr Tack Shin Lee and Dr James Rohrsheim who fly from sydney a week a month each and myself. Having him here will be a great help with the workload and we will have a complete on call roster without locums which is a first for orthopaedics in Grafton and is a big improvement. Please like, share and comment to welcome Dr Michel Genon!

Congratulations Dr Andrew White and all the excellent ICU staff. It is the 2 year anniversary of our high dependency unit being upgraded to an ICU. This has been a huge improvement to the care available to the people of the Clarence valley and we all appreciate your achievement. Please like share or comment.

Ok this is a bit exciting: Here is a drawing for the development application which is soon to be submitted for a private hospital and consulting space adjacent to the Grafton Base Hospital! Please like, comment or share if you think this will be a good thing for the Clarence valley.

It was not nearly as exciting as meeting Michel Genon- Grafton's new orthopedic surgeon, but it was still nice to get some new smart looking stationary this week.
Last week Dr Michel Genon visited Grafton. He will be starting as a full time Orthopaedic Surgeon in January working out of the grafton surgical clinic and base hospital. It was lovely to meet him. He has family in the area and is already looking at schools. I am looking forwards to many years of working together! Welcome Michel.

There was an amazing sunset this evening on the way home from an excellent hip course in Sydney.

https://aoanjrr.sahmri.com/ The Australian national joint replacement registry- 15 years old congratulations! 15 years of excellent data to help people get the best results out of joint replacement surgery. Hip and knee replacements don't just last 15 years. There is a very good chance of certain hip or knee replacements lasting more than 15 years and potentially much more. There is however a very small risk of failure even early after the operation, so still something to think carefully about.
