facebook.com📚✏️💻 Back-to-School Countdown 💻✏️📚 In the interests of making sure everyone starts the school year on the right foot - and that unnecessary distractions are minimised so that we can concentrate on our main job of teaching and learning - students and their families are reminded that the following items are not to be brought on the Gladstone SHS premises: ❌ metal rulers (plastic and wooden only permitted); ❌ liquid correction fluid (please use the correction tape options); ❌ chewing gum; ❌ permanent markers; ❌ aerosol cans: we encourage good personal hygiene, which may be achieved through the use of roll-on alternatives. Regardless, body sprays are not anti-persperant deodorants and are consequently not required at school for hygiene reasons. ❌ energy drinks; ❌ fast food from external places of business (including the Night Owl convenience store): no student should be leaving the GSHS grounds during the day to purchase food; we are a 'Green and Healthy' school and only have two 'red days' a term. We are proud of our tuckshop: it is open before school and both breaks every day; it has an extensive menu; AND it has EFTPOS facilities. Students found with any of the items listed above will have the items confiscated and consequences may apply as appropriate; arrangements for the collection of the items will also be made. Please note this list does not contain illicit items, which, too, are not allowed on our school grounds but carry much more serious consequences. Remember: this information is being shared in the interests in making sure all members of our school community are aware of our expectations from Day 1 of the school year. If you have any questions about this list, be sure to contact our Social Justice team via telephone (4976 6111).
📚✏️💻 Back-to-School Countdown 💻✏️📚 As previously promoted, school resumes on Monday, January 22, 2018. Gladstone SHS will have a staggered start, with students in Years 7, 8 and 11 (plus Year 10 Peer Mentors) + Technical College students returning on the 22nd and the rest of the school (Years 9, 10 and 12) joining them on the Tuesday. The image attached to this post shares where students are to meet on their first day. Please share and pass this information on to get the message out.
*** Office Closed Early: January 17, 2018 *** Due to a required upgrade of our school's computer system, the front office will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 17, from 2.30pm. The uniform shop will be open until 3.30pm, as previously advertised. Any appointments already booked with our Administration team for after 2.30pm still stand. We thank our school community in advance for your understanding and assistance in sharing this message.
*** New Principal - Term 1, 2018 *** We would like to advise our school community that our principal, Terri Byrne, has accepted an Executive Principal role at another Queensland State school. We thank Terri for her leadership and commitment to Gladstone State High School whilst here and wish her well in her new role. We would also like to welcome Garry Goltz into the Principal role for Term 1 and look forward to working under his leadership.
*** Year 7 Student Resource Scheme Fees *** Please note: Year 7 Student Resource Scheme fees will be invoiced by end of February 2018 and posted out to families; payment cannot be made until invoices have been raised. It is important to ensure you have returned your Student Resource Scheme form so that students can collect their textbooks from Day 1. The Student Resource Scheme form can be completed electronically at the following link https://gladstoneshs.schoolzineplus.com/form/9 or you can download a hardcopy from the school website https://gladstonshs.eq.edu.au/Supportandresources/Formsanddocuments/Documents/SRS%20Agreement%20Form.pdf. This can be return either via email studentmanagement@gladstonshs.eq.edu.au or handed into the office this week.
Dates for the diary (for all our budding sporting stars):
While some of us were lazing in the heat, recovering from Christmas and New Year's Eve celebrations, GSHS netball star Kaneisha was competing with the Queensland Murri Under 18 team down on the Gold Coast between January 2-7...and was selected for the Australian Indigenous Under 18 Netball team! What a brilliant achievement! Congratulations, Kaneisha!
It is important that you return your signed Student Resource Scheme form prior to your students' return (even if you choose not to participate). Only students who are participating in the scheme and have returned their signed agreement will be able to collect their textbooks in the first week of the term. You can complete this electronically (anytime) available here https://gladstoneshs.schoolzineplus.com/form/9
Happy 2018, everyone! Not that we are wishing away the holidays in any way, but now that 2018 has arrived we are aware the school term will be upon us soon. Both our front office and Uniform Shop will be open from 8.15am on Monday, January 15, 2018 (until 3.30pm daily, except January 17, on which it will close at 2.30pm). For new enrolments, please note that we are an enrolment managed school, and to attend Gladstone SHS you need live in our catchment zone; more details available from our front office, or you can check the map here: http://www.qgso.qld.gov.au/maps/edmap/ Please also find some links below to help you organise for the year ahead: 2018 Student Resource Scheme Agreement: https://gladstoneshs.schoolzineplus.com/form/9 Bring Your Own Device (BYOx) 2018 User Agreement (BYOx not compulsory): https://gladstoneshs.schoolzineplus.com/form/11 2018 2018 Book Lists: https://gladstonshs.eq.edu.au/Supportandresources/Formsanddocuments/Pages/Documents.aspx?RootFolder=%2FSupportandresources%2FFormsanddocuments%2FDocuments%2FStudent%20Forms&FolderCTID=0x0120007E4C92A6F79DBE4A97765CBA47B936FB&View={FB47CDA5-DE7D-43EE-9034-760D96EA322E
