Otherside Brewing Co. is a surrealist carnival that brews to the offbeat...a raucous marriage of life’s essential elements: music and beer, sea and sun. It began – naturally – over a tinnie, as the sun was arcing over the euphoric crowd at a music festival beside the sea. No one can remember exactly who said it, but we were all thinking it: “Imagine if you could bottle this: cork the festival experience. Imagine if it was possible to capture this feeling in a beer?”

So, we bloody well did it!

Founded in the back shed by Sunset Events – that motley crew otherwise known for dishing up the craftiest in aural rapture for nigh on two decades, with music festivals that are as uncompromising as they are unconventional – Otherside Brewing Co. is certainly not your average brewery…more a surrealist carnival that brews to the offbeat.

It’s both a beer and a philosophy on life: an invitation to ditch your inhibitions and embrace your other. That philosophy has remained steadfast since the very beginnings: push the boundaries…and have a damn hoot doing it. At Otherside, our beers not only embody this sentiment, they holler it – a raucous and rhapsodic marriage of life’s essential elements: music and beer, sea and sun.

Our finely crafted beverages are, like our musical shindigs, manifestations of our core values: expressive, individual, local and natural…and all conditioned at suitably excessive decibels. This is sun-kissed beer with a swagger.

Only the choicest, most expressive ingredients are sourced – and the beer crafted to best express these pristine and uncompromised components, making for refreshing and inspired drinking that truly befits our enigmatic home base: Fremantle, Australia.

Welcome to the Otherside…where life’s a whole lot better!

Otherside was born of music…somewhat literally, with the brewery conceived at a suitably euphoric music festival (yes, there may have been gratuitous hugging, but we're not admitting to anything). As such, it gives us great pleasure to announce we’re pitching in to help our good mates – and Freo groove merchants – Koi Child travel to SXSW in Austin, Texas this March to make their debut on the global stage. Good luck fellas…we know you’ll nail it good and proper. This Otherside International Development Grant is just part of our fundamental love-in with WA’s flaring creative sector – with our latest beer, Harvest, featuring the evocative brushstrokes of Freo diviner Mr David Spencer Art. And with one fell swoop, the Harvest was tapped. What a night at Petition - thanks for coming down and sharing in the ruddy goodness that is the Harvest Red Ale. We're utterly chuffed. Now, let's do it all again tonight Freo-styles at Clancy's Fish Pub Fremantle 5pm. Brewer's shout until the keg is out. #harvestred #makeitanother #brewersshout A little yarn about Harvest... Otherside is heartened to announce the release of Harvest: an alluring Red Ale, inspired by the ancient rituals of Harvest – a time when all the peoples of the world come together for an uproarious shindig in honour of all that’s good (ale, naturally, at the helm). “I set out to create something both satisfying and richly complex,” brewer Rhys Lopez says of Harvest. “Something that reflected the colours of the season with deep malt and bountiful hops, but with an approachability that lets it be enjoyed year-round.” The result? A medium-bodied, generously-hopped Red Ale, with vivid melon and citrus notes up front – backed up with the alluring raisin and plum characters of the premium caramel malts. Harvest is both enigmatic and soothing: a rich and beguiling brew that reveals artful balance. Harvest is best enjoyed with your Granny’s famous ragout and the people you like best. As well as on tap, Harvest will also be released in limited edition 500ml cans in March – with striking artwork created by David Spencer. Harvest follows the success of Otherside’s Festive Ale, and is the inaugural beer in Otherside’s newly launched ‘Pilot’ Series – a range dedicated to crafting limited batches of innovative, bold and transcendent beers. The sort of beers we love to drink! And if you love it too…we’ll brew more. “It’s simply about listening to the consumer and giving power back to the people,” Otherside’s Managing Director David Chitty explains. “It’s about responding to what folk actually enjoy – not what they are told to enjoy. This is emblematic of Otherside, which is about consistently offering a unique perspective.” For Harvest, eminent Fremantle artist David Spencer was commissioned to create an original work that drew on both the sensorial elements and ancient traditions surrounding harvest. Renowned for his highly textural interpretations of the convergence of urbanity, industrialisation and the natural, with “Harvest Red” Spencer created a singular artwork that tracks the autumnal sun arcing across plough-etched fields towards the Indian Ocean. And it’s suitably sublime. The ‘Pilot’ Series is a tangible and vivid manifestation of Otherside’s commitment to WA’s creative landscape – and each subsequent ‘Pilot’ release will feature an exclusive commissioned work by a WA artist. Harvest - Plough In!
