EAST HILLS RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB BLUES NEWS TEAM REPORTS ROUNDS 1-3 MATCH REPORT TEAM: U/6 DATE: 2/4/16 ROUND: 1 OPPOSITION TEAM: St George Dragons GROUND: Smith Park RESULT: LOSS 4-36 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: Sean Horrell AWARDS Top Dog – Ali Tabbah SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: For the first game of the season our Under 6s were up against the St George dragons and an old team mate, Maleko. Our team showed that they had been working hard on their tackles. Connor Heanes proved this with thumping tackles again the opposition. With Mikayla Tobenhouse cheering on her team mates, Noah Strother, Mohamed Bardouh, Lachlan Heckenberg and Tyson Loy pumped their little legs to help the team gain much needed ground; however, it wasn’t enough to keep the Dragons from finding our try line. Sean Horrell got the Bulldogs on the score board with a great try, breaking away from the defence and running from half way. Ali Tabbah kicked a great ball at the restart and showed promising skills with a great fend and run with the ball. Ali took out TOP DOG!!! Better luck next time Bulldogs!! REPORT COMPILED BY: Sarah Strother MATCH REPORT TEAM: U/6 DATE: 9/04/16 ROUND: 2 OPPOSITION TEAM: Berala Bears GROUND: Peter Hislop Park RESULT: LOSS 24-28 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: 3X Ali Tabbah, Connor Heanes, Lachlan Heckenberg, Noah Strother AWARDS Top Dog – Harlem Belmonte SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: Under 6s are showing improvement in leaps and bounds this year. With 2 of our players away the team put in a great effort. Ali Tabbah showed amazing skills scoring three tries. Connor Heanes has a fend to be wary of, palming off 5 players to make a run for the try line. Harlem Belmonte had a great first game getting a few runs under his belt, having Mohammed Bardouh, our smallest player; show him exactly how it’s done with a great run down the right side. After a couple of hard tackles Lachlan Heckenburg and Noah Strother brought our try tally to 6. It was a close game and East Hills were unlucky to not walk away with a win. Keep up the great work team! REPORT COMPILED BY: Sarah Strother MATCH REPORT TEAM: U/6 DATE: 16/04/16 ROUND: 3 OPPOSITION TEAM: Berala Bears GROUND: Peter Hislop Park RESULT: LOSS 16-36 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: Volunteer players given to us by Berala Bears AWARDS Top Dog – Mikayla Tobenhouse SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: This weekend was by far the hardest our Under 6s have played. Up against an incredible team with only 6 players the kids showed true courage and determination. The opposition were bigger than us, faster than us and hit harder than us, but our team got up time and time again and tried their best. Our super star of the day was Mikayla who got out on the field for the first time! Well done! Noah Strother was awarded the Canterbury Fair Play award. And a huge thanks to the team and coaching staff at Berala who made sure it was a game about fun – not who wins! REPORT COMPILED BY: Sarah Strother MATCH REPORT TEAM: U/8-2 DATE: 2/04/16 ROUND: 1 OPPOSITION TEAM: Moorebank GROUND: Smith Park RESULT: WIN 26-24 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: 3X Kalani, Scooper, Rylan and Safety OUR GOALS SCORED BY: Kalani AWARDS SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: WELCOME BACK TO THE 2016 FOOTY SEASON ,HOW COOL IS IT TO BE BACK OUR GOAL THIS YEAR IS TO IMPROVE IN ALL FACETS OF THE GAME TOP PRIORITY DEFENCE , IF YOU DONT GET INVOLVED IN TACKLING YOU ARE PLAYING THE WRONG GAME I FEEL WE HAVE AN ISSUE IN NOT WANTING TO HIT THE GROUND WE ARE HAPPY TO STAND AND HOLD NOT DRIVE WITH SHOULDERS HOPEFULLY WITH WORK ON THIS BY SEASONS END WE CAN SEE AN IMPROVEMENT Our first official game of the season was against the always well drilled Rams and while our ballwork was great our defence was just so so . With Darcy Andoni and Bailey running straight and hard this proved a handfull for the Rams defence and made us plenty of ground ,brothers pairings of Dylan and Ando Matty and Kalani who worked their sets clinically and on the end of quick play the balls runners Rylan Scooper Safety and Alex got to show their attacking skills .We managed to get through the game without a dropped ball or running out this all stems from the great work at the ruck of Rylan and Cooper and when they were off Safety and Kalani stepped in without a hitch great job everyone. In defence Alex led the way constantly up in the face of the Rams ruck causing dropped ball and making plenty of tackles .Kalani and Safety made some great covering tackles and Matty made a cracker front on stopping the runner in his tracks. As a team we are a little one out in defence and whilst everyone did something at some stage its all about wanting to make every tackle to get in and get dirty with your team mates help out be involved. Tackling is a VERY COOL part of footy. Leading the way this week was Matty ably assisted by Alex and Kalani once again Safety was on hand for some great covering tackles, having said that everyone pitched in and did their job as the score indicates at times 3 or more were involved in a tackle. In attack repeating our no dropped ball effort from last week was always going to be tough we still managed to go about our plays with a degree of control.Once again everyone ran direct and ducking and weaving runs from Dylan Ando Matty and Yousef had the Chesso defence constantly scrambling this backed up by bullocking runs from Darcy Andoni and Bailey they all proved a handful on the back of this, great work from Alex and Safety on the fringes followed by quick play the balls to allow Rylan and Cooper to combine brilliantly for 3 tries.Kalani ran with power and agression to get across for 4 tries he was on the end of some great offloads and was duly rewarded for his back up play.A fantastic effort by everyone. A most pleasiong aspect of our game was how everyone is getting in an having a crack in defence . In attack apart from a couple of sideways efforts all were involved in some very pleasing teamwork well done boys 3 in a row, ZIGGY ZAGGY ZIGGY ZAGGY DOGS DOGS DOGS YOURS IN FOOTY GUT REPORT COMPILED BY: Gut MATCH REPORT TEAM: U/9-3 DATE: 2/4/16 ROUND: 1 OPPOSITION TEAM: Greenacre Tigers GROUND: Smith Park RESULT: Win on forfeit MATCH REPORT TEAM: U/9-3 DATE: 9/4/16 ROUND: 2 OPPOSITION TEAM: Revesby Heights Rhino’s GROUND: Neptune Park RESULT: Loss 10-26 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: OUR GOALS SCORED BY: AWARDS SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: round 2 we played rhinos at Neptune park we lost 26/10 welcome all new parents to the side and the returning parents we started the first half looking good for the first ten minutes totally controlling the game then we had a couple of sets on there line and we just couldn't finish with points then rhinos put a couple of tries on before half time in the second half I think it was 12/10 to the rhinos but considering we only had one training session as a team me and rowan were pleased with your performance REPORT COMPILED BY: Ronnie MATCH REPORT TEAM: U/9-3 DATE: 16/4/16 ROUND: 3 OPPOSITION TEAM: Berala Bears GROUND: Peter Hislop Park RESULT: Win 22-8 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: OUR GOALS SCORED BY: AWARDS SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: round 3 under 9s east hills 22 bears 10 well done boys on a great game our first real win of the year and a win yous all deserve we were try for try for the first half then something clicked and our defence won us this game boys and just remember we need to be running on to the ball not standing flat footed and hit em hard REPORT COMPILED BY: Ronnie MATCH REPORT TEAM: U/10-1 DATE: 2/4/16 ROUND: 1 OPPOSITION TEAM: Greenacre Tigers (W) GROUND: Smith Park RESULT: Lost 22-24 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: 3X Jayden OUR GOALS SCORED BY: AWARDS SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: Our first game in division 1 didn't go as planned as we were leading by 10 points with 10 minutes to go only to have the squandered by silly mistakes and eventually lose to greenacre by 2 points Man of the match REPORT COMPILED BY: Bobby MATCH REPORT TEAM: U/10-1 DATE: 9/4/16 ROUND: 2 OPPOSITION TEAM: St George Dragons GROUND: Clemton Park RESULT: WON 24-18 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: OUR GOALS SCORED BY: AWARDS Top Dog - Lachlan SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: The grand final rematch was an absolute cracker with the scores 6-6 at halftime then some great tackling by our boys and awesome tries seen us come away with a win over the dragons 24-18 at there home ground and kick start our div 1 campaign REPORT COMPILED BY: Bobby MATCH REPORT TEAM: U/10-1 DATE: 16/4/16 ROUND: 3 OPPOSITION TEAM: St Johns Eagles GROUND: Begnell Oval RESULT: LOSS 8-36 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: OUR GOALS SCORED BY: AWARDS Top Dog - Zack SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: We were confident travelling to begnall oval after such a confident defensive display the week before and was 10-8 at halftime only to have that smashed by silly errors and poor defense in the second half to see us lose woefully 26-8 REPORT COMPILED BY: Bobby MATCH REPORT TEAM: U/12-1 DATE: 2/4/16 ROUND: 1 OPPOSITION TEAM: Greenacre Tigers GROUND: Smith Park RESULT: LOST 0-16 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: OUR GOALS SCORED BY: AWARDS SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: Game was played 15 minutes into the first half, when a player went down with potential spinal injury, ambulance was called. REPORT COMPILED BY: Rebecca Dooley MATCH REPORT TEAM: U/13-2 DATE: 2/4/16 ROUND: 1 OPPOSITION TEAM: St George Dragons GROUND: Smith Park RESULT: LOST 0-48 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: OUR GOALS SCORED BY: AWARDS SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: Up against a much bigger St George side, I think the boy’s judges a book by its cover and thought the game was lost before it started. As I stress all the time: “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight it’s the size of the fight in the dog”. St George is a team we could put over if our heart is in the right placed come game day. Any team is. We showed good signs attacking with Seb, Ryan and Jerry moving the ball around however shot ourselves in the foot with a number of errors with the ball. A lack of will and hunger in defense is what lost us field position. Come 2nd half after a good G up talk from Alby the boys came out fired up with big hits and mongrel came out. A big improvement shown in the 2nd half however we continued to show a lack of structure and organization that we usually have on a Tuesday and Thursday night. Only round 1, plenty of time to work on the simple things then the flash football I know the under 13’s have, will be able to come out. Looking forward to continue working on the team as there is a lot of potential in the side. Big thanks to Blake and Ryan for playing up with gutsy effort for both of them. REPORT COMPILED BY: Hoons and Alby MATCH REPORT TEAM: U/13-2 DATE: 9/4/16 ROUND: 2 OPPOSITION TEAM: Milperra Colts GROUND: Killara Reserve RESULT: LOSS 4-46 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: Sebastian OUR GOALS SCORED BY: AWARDS man of the match - Sebastian SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: Playing with 11 players on a hot day it was going to be difficult. Once again the line defense allowed their big boys to break through our line but we began to muscle up and most of their tries were scored from the sides where we were missing 2 wingers. After a few points were scored on us the boys began to fire up showing good signs. Then they started using initiative which alby and I were happy to see and it worked. Making big metres up the field and putting points on the board. A big improvement and we will only continue to improve. REPORT COMPILED BY: Hoons and Alby MATCH REPORT TEAM: U/13-2 DATE: 16/4/16 ROUND: 3 OPPOSITION TEAM: Greenacre Tigers GROUND: Roberts Park RESULT: LOSS 0-32 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: OUR GOALS SCORED BY: AWARDS Man of the Match - Jeremiah SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: By far the best football we have seen out of the boys with continuous improvement shown. The boys need to learn to switch on BEFORE the game rather than at half time as the 2nd half was all ours. The score does not reflect the game. We were the better team, we all thought. Played with 12, I was please to see the halves Ryan and Jerry playing what was in from of them, taking the ball to the line and looking dangerous. The forwards muscles up led by Ethan and Mauger with Logan putting in a good attack and defense game having realized what damage his size can do to the opposition. With no touch judges a few calls really put a dent in our game had there been touchies the game would have been a lot closer as we crossed the line several times and some of their tries were dodgy calls. All in all a top game boys, will we only improve as we have already. REPORT COMPILED BY: Hoons and Alby MATCH REPORT TEAM: U14-3 DATE: 3/4/16 ROUND: 1 OPPOSITION TEAM: Carlingford Cougars GROUND: Ryde Oval RESULT: WIN 58-12 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: OUR GOALS SCORED BY: AWARDS SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: Great start to the year opened Cougars up early and the boys looked itching to play. Everyone wanted the ball in their hands but unfortunately we over played the game and passed a little too frequently in tackles one and two and not moving forward with the ball as a consequence Cougars scored 8 points in the first half. After half time it was a new side out there, boys were now running in two’s settling through the middle and dominating every set. Off loading in more calculating positions and now try were coming a lot more frequently. With a wonderful back line try to the winger Blake . Congratulation boys our first game showing so much promise… REPORT COMPILED BY: Judex MATCH REPORT TEAM: U14-3 DATE: 10/4/16 ROUND: 2 OPPOSITION TEAM: Chester Hill GROUND: Smith park MATCH REPORT TEAM: U14-3 DATE: 17/4/16 ROUND: 3 OPPOSITION TEAM: Moorebank GROUND: Smith Park RESULT: WIN 52-0 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: OUR GOALS SCORED BY: AWARDS SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: The Chester Hill game was and up and down affair . Chester Hill prepared well with the attitude of confidence in their defence . We did start the game with an easy try and the game looked like it would run in our favour. What we didn’t count on was how enthusiastic the opposition was and we dropped ball and took wrong options throughout the half. It was now evident we had a real game on our hands compared to previous weeks. Thanks to some half time composure. We went to the second half with a plan of supporting each other and playing out our sets. With fewer drop balls we were back to our best and dominating game. The following week we played Moorbank Ram and won by over 50 points. We benched our captain and the boys nominated Kylie as vise captain. We were clearly too strong for Moorebank. However it did give us an opportunity to try moves and develop skills that had not been displayed. One of our best trys was a back line pass to a screaming winger Blake to score down the side line. It was so great to see that they were now looking up to see if our team mate was in a better position to break the line or score. Although we did not defend much throughout the game our line speed had improved from previous weeks. Hopefully we do enter the Division 2 comp which will give us more opportunities to develop our defense. REPORT COMPILED BY: Judex MATCH REPORT TEAM: U/19-2 DATE: 3/4/16 ROUND: 1 OPPOSITION TEAM: East Campbelltown GROUND: Waminda Ocal RESULT: WIN 24-10 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: 2X Tristan, 2X Alro, Jeremiah OUR GOALS SCORED BY: Dyllan X1, Bradley X1 SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: Footy is back! Its round 1 and were off to Waminda Oval to face East Campbelltown. With a distributed trial form and issues with clearances and playing cards we knew it was going to challenge as mentally. We started off strong with scoring first points through Alro and Dyllan added the extras to lead 6-0. We dominated the first 15 minutes but with errors coming out of our own end, it saw East Campbelltown take control and scoring 2 tries off kicks to lead at half time 10-6. We were still confident going into half time after defending so many sets on our line and only leak 10 points. Words from trev were to stay in the grind and we will break them. 10 minutes into the second half went and we levelled up the scoring at 10-10. With 15 to go both teams were down to 12 after Tyler copped a head butt and threw a punch back. We got back to how we started and dominated the last 15 minutes with scoring some tries back to back and took the final score out to 24-10. Special Mention to Man of the Match Tristan. REPORT COMPILED BY: Mitchell Gray MATCH REPORT TEAM: U/19-2 DATE: 10/4/16 ROUND: 2 OPPOSITION TEAM: Balmain Jnrs United GROUND: The Mighty Smith Park RESULT: WON 38-2 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: Baba, James, Brendon D X2, Brendon L, Matty, Thommo OUR GOALS SCORED BY: Dyllan X 4, Bradley X 1 SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: The Tigers came to play some footy at Smith Park, and they did. The final score did not reflect the physical contact that was in this game. Our boys were just too strong, fast and fit for the opposition. A good lead at half time was marred by Mitch breaking his arm in a didn’t look like much tackle.(out minimum of 6 weeks). The second half got under way, and you could see the frustration in the Tigers and their management, as everything they throw a us was shut down. A high shot on Alro(tried to rip his head off) saw a altercation break out, witch resulted in 2 of ours and 1 of theirs in the bin. 5 of ours in the Bin during the course of the second half and we still kept them try less. Good effort boys, but stay calm when shit happens and we will win a lot more games. Get even with hard defense, not punches. REPORT COMPILED BY: Terry Anderson MATCH REPORT TEAM: U/19-2 DATE: 17/04/16 ROUND: 3 OPPOSITION TEAM: Renown United GROUND: Renown Park RESULT: WON 18-6 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: Brendon D, Brad, Dyllan, Junior OUR GOALS SCORED BY: Jayden T SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: A beautiful Sunday afternoon for the big Grand Final reply! Both sides looking very different in players to last time they met with each having at least 6-7 players out this week. You could hear the excitement in Trev’s voice as he talked about the tough encounter that would follow. As expected it work out just as Trevor had planned with Renown playing us out wide on the edges and the mighty Bulldogs playing our power game up the center. Renown drew 1st blood with a try out wide. We then started too tough out the grind we planned. We had a few scoring opportunities that went astray by dropping the last pass or bad reading of lines to run. Our combinations just weren’t there but we kept to the structure and eventually we cracked them with a try also out wide but missed the goal. An even ball game again until our favorite referee from the St. George area decided to stamp his mark on the game and find a penalty against us on many occasions resulting in a penalty goal for Renown right in front to give them a 2 point lead at halftime. The 2nd half went from end to end and became a real arm wrestle. We had several chances but could not capitalize those into points( run Junior run). We even had 4 front rows on at once one playing wing and one playing 5/8, yes you heard right 5/8. Our defence was enormous and Renown never looked like crossing our line but we could not get the knockout blow on them either. Then like the parting of the oceans it happened with 10 minutes to go and just like the song we went in again and again to get the chocolates from a hard fought win. P.S, I need to mention Jayden’s great goal from the sideline with 8 minutes to go to put us 8 ahead. Very good team effort boys with a lot of you out of position for most of the game. From the Coaching staff. The ref’s calls for the day just weren’t in our favour. After losing a few players to injury we couldn’t make a comeback. Better luck next week boys. REPORT COMPILED BY: Sarah - Manager MATCH REPORT TEAM: 2rd grade DATE: 17/04/16 ROUND: 3 OPPOSITION TEAM: Milperra Colts GROUND: Killara Reserve RESULT: LOST 22-26 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: Darren, John lotulelei, Steve, Gary OUR GOALS SCORED BY: Nathan Sellings X 2, Corey Holden 1 AWARDS Manof the Match – John Lotulelei SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: We had a terrible start to the game. Colts were up by 14 points with in the first 10 minutes. We managed to break through their defence taking the score into half time at 4-14 Colts way. In the second half we managed to cross the try line 3 more times but after giving away an 8 point penalty try Colts walked away with the win. Our top tackler for Sunday was Jordan Kranjec taking down an impressive 19 tackles. With plenty of injuries this week, losing 3 players, we look forward to the challenge of next week. REPORT COMPILED BY: Sarah and Chantel - Managers MATCH REPORT TEAM: 3rd grade DATE: 3/04/16 ROUND: 1 OPPOSITION TEAM: East Campbelltown GROUND: Waminda Oval RESULT: WIN 42-18 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: 3X Moey, 2X Will, Lam, Marlon, Jake, Blake OUR GOALS SCORED BY: Lam, Will, Moey AWARDS SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: MATCH REPORT TEAM: 3rd grade DATE: 10/04/16 ROUND: 2 OPPOSITION TEAM: Bankstown Sports GROUND: Steve Folks Reserve RESULT: WIN 14-12 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: Diab, Lam, O'Shea OUR GOALS SCORED BY: Lam AWARDS SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: MATCH REPORT TEAM: 3rd grade DATE: 17/04/16 ROUND: 3 OPPOSITION TEAM: Chester Hill GROUND: Smith Park RESULT: WIN 16-6 OUR TRIES SCORED BY: Jack, Will, Matenga and Jake OUR GOALS SCORED BY: AWARDS SHORT COMMENTARY ON MATCH: Tough day at the office but very typically A grade with the opposition having no one player weighing less than 100kgs. So as expected they were slow but hit hard in defence and ran (for want of a better term) even harder. The boys stuck solidly to the game plan of playing simple with the ball and using our line speed in defence to wear them down. We actually did a little better than that with some real strong tackling in the middle causing plenty of errors from Chester Hill and allowing us to control the game. We scored a couple of earlier tries and one towards half time to go to the sheds 12-0 up but probably should’ve got a few more except poor handling let us down. This is symptomatic of our training so far this year which has been a bit disjointed as the two A grades sorted themselves out. On that note, we welcome on board our 2016 coaching staff which has only been sorted this week. Mark ‘Snail’ Smith as coach, Ronda as manager, Gary Williams as FAO, Craig Gillespie & Judex Jasmin as trainers. There is a wealth of experience there which hopefully will be imparted on to the playing group and we should have a good strong season. We certainly took a battering from the big opposition as the game wore on, losing troops at a rapid rate with injury. We have a broken forearm, broken ankle, hamstring strains, rib cartilage damage amongst others and the boys certainly kept us busy icing them up after the game. Our bench which started with 6 was whittled down to 2 who both struggling to continue and 3 or 4 remaining on the field who would normally have been replaced due to their injuries. It was real tough grinding win under adversity with a few of our forwards playing the entire second half but never once shirking the task at hand. We played almost the entire second half playing in our own half but still managed another try before conceding our only try in the final minute of the game. Very pleasing effort all round and kept a perfect winning start to the year intact. One thing we need to look at and which will count big time in close games is our goal kicking. We’ve now scored 16 tries but only converted 4 of them so we’ve left 24 points out there on the field that may come back and bite us. Let’s get some practise in. Tough one ahead against another undefeated side this week in Greenacre but I’m sure if we can get a 75% fit side on the park then our resolve and determination will carry the day and earn us victory.
