Ocean Alliance sets out its stall -

Day One Product Signed The members of the Ocean Alliance which launches next April have outlined their global network plans. Cosco Shipping, CMA CGM, Evergreen and Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) today signed a document entitled the Day One Product, which sets out the proposed alliance network, including port rotation for each service loop. The Day One network intends to deploy around 350 container vessels with an estimated total carrying capacity of 3.5m teu. The grouping will offer 20 transpacific services, six Asia-Europe sailings, five Asia-Mediterranean offerings, three transatlantic routes, five Asia-Middle East links and two Asia-Red Sea services. “Ocean Alliance is the largest operational agreement ever made between shipping companies. With more than 40 maritime services, we will be sharing our fleet with the largest Asian shipping companies,” said Rodolphe Saadé, vice chairman of CMA CGM. “We are very pleased with our progress and close collaboration with our partners in putting together an outstanding selection of Day One Products,” said Andy Tung, ceo of OOCL. Air Cargo Security Newsletter—October 2016—Issue 12

Changes to Air Cargo Security As of the 1st November, the Aviation Transport Security Amendment (Cargo) Regulation 2016 commenced. The Regulations will allow Australian export and freight forwarding businesses to meet the US requirement for piece-level examination of 100% of air cargo bound for the US from 1st July 2017. Importantly, these arrangements will increase security across the whole supply chain, and ensure that $6 billion worth of exports to the US continue uninterrupted. The Regulations will: - establish the regulatory framework for the Known Consignor scheme, which will allow exporters to secure cargo at its source—this is accepted as being commensurate with piece-level examination; - streamline air cargo examination and clearance provisions by defining what clearance is, and how it is achieved, for US bound and non-US bound cargo—this includes changes to who can issue a Security Declaration; - reform the regulatory arrangements for RACAs by transitioning RACAs that don't examine cargo under a Secretary's notice to AACAs; and - reform the regulatory arrangements for high-risk cargo by aligning our regulations with international best practice and ensuring that industry has measures in place to identify, handle and treat high-risk cargo. What Does This Mean? As 1Logistics was a Regulated Air Cargo Agent (RACA) that didn't examine cargo under a notice before these regulations were implemented, we have now transitioned to the Accredited Air Cargo Agent (AACA) scheme. This will not reduce the level of security that must be maintained, however it means that each piece of cargo must now be examined by a RACA by either X-ray examination or Electronic Metal Detection (for perishable air cargo only). If either of these primary examination methods are not suitable, then a secondary examination method such as explosive trace detection or physical examination will be used. Known Consignor Scheme The Known Consignor scheme is a new initiative that offers export businesses an alternative way to meet US air cargo requirements. Instead of having their US bound air cargo examined at piece-level by another regulated business, Known Consignors implement security measures at their facilities to ensure their cargo is safe to load on an aircraft. If your business originates international air cargo, you may be eligible to join the scheme. If you would like to read further about these new regulations, please visit: https://infrastructure.gov.au/security/air-cargo/newsletters/issue_12.aspx If you have any questions in regards to these new regulations, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Cathay Pacific to Operate Brisbane Wellcamp's First Freighter Service Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport is welcoming its first dedicated international freighter service on 21st November with the arrival of a weekly Cathay Pacific Cargo Boeing 747-8F flight. The new service will meet demand to move commodities from Southern Queensland and its catchment area to Asia, Europe and North America. The flight, which is still subject to government approval, will operate on a Hong Kong - Sydney - Melbourne - Wellcamp - Hong Kong route, leaving on Mondays at 2230HR, flying around Australia on Tuesday and returning to Hong Kong on 0045HR on Wednesday. The 747-8F services will carry fresh produce from Australia’s agricultural regions and machinery to support mining projects and other manufacturing activities in the local and surrounding regions. “With growing demand from Mainland China for Australia’s agricultural products, we are confident our service will provide local businesses with a competitive advantage as the benefits of the new China-Australia Free Trade Agreement increase.”

Since Hanjin Shipping filed for bankruptcy at the end of August, we have seen many importers without their cargo due to Hanjin vessels being turned away from the wharves. This situation is frustrating for all parties, as we wait for a solution to get the affected cargo unloaded. Hanjin Shipping's collapse is by far the largest container shipping bankruptcy in history, so how can you protect yourself in the event of this happening to another shipping line? 1 Logistics can ensure you are protected by arranging Marine Insurance on your cargo that covers bankruptcy filed by the shipping line that your cargo is stowed on. Marine Insurance not only protects you against events such as these, but also protects you if your cargo is damaged or goes missing during transit. You can read more about our Marine Insurance policies here: http://1logistics.com.au/marine-insurance-not-just-for-your-cargo/ If you were interested in insuring your cargo, or you have any questions in relation to Marine Insurance or Hanjin's collapse, please contact us!
