NEW SUPPORT SERVICE AT HEADSTART, BUNDABERG We would like to welcome Aynsley as a new member of our HeadStart Team. Aynsley will be offering a specialised service in mental health and psychological support. She has a graduate degree in Psychology and has specialised in working with young people and their families. Sometimes there are underlying emotional or social difficulties that may affect a young person’s behaviour or performance in school. Through one-on-one counselling, these difficulties are uncovered and support is provided to assist in resolving them. This may be through talk therapy, play, art or music therapy to communicate with the young person and enable them to express their feelings. It is important that we assist young people to build from their strengths and give them the tools to help move through these difficult and challenging times. This support is provided in a comfortable and nurturing space for the young person. MINDFULNESS MORNINGS AT HEADSTART - Tuesdays 7:30-8:00am There has been plenty of research recently about the positive impact of mindfulness practices for children and how it boosts powers of focus and attention. Other benefits include an increased awareness of one’s body, thoughts and emotions and an improvement in impulse control and interpersonal skills. As a trial during first term, we are offering a weekly 30-minute morning yoga/meditation mix for our HeadStart students and friends. This will be such a positive way to start the day!
