Ngarlimbah - It's about us.

Ngarlimbah - It’s about us. Edwin Lee Mulligan dreams a lot about Country. When he wakes up, he writes down his dreams and then memorises them word for word. This is an interpretation of one of Edwin's dreams featuring his paintings and his country, his mother's country and his father's country. For Edwin, capturing the meaning and feeling of the country is everything. I have been working on this story with Edwin since 2010, off and on. Distances, travel and life have all thrown up obstacles... but here it is.

Perth International Arts Festival 2015 Marrugeku Cut The Sky Australia 27 Feb–1 March 2015 World Premiere Concept by Dalisa Pigram and Rachael Swain Directed by Rachael Swain Choreographed by Dalisa Pigram and Serge Aimé Coulibaly Storyteller Edwin Lee Mulligan It is synthetic theatre at its boldest, most expressive and physical, where the imagination stalks unchained on stage and the spirits of the land move unseen among us. THE AUSTRALIAN (on Crying Baby) Beginning in the near future during an ecological catastrophe, a group of refugees dodge yet another extreme weather event. Cut The Sky propels us back in time and asks, as we face our future – who will be there to sing the rain song when the sky speaks? Featuring the poems of dream-catcher Edwin Lee Mulligan, and songs by Ngaiire and Nick Cave, Cut the Sky is a richly layered work that invites you to think about how we value that which is above and below the earth’s crust. In this world premiere season, Marrugeku’s hallmark choreography and personal storytelling bring to the fore a vision of our future that is something to behold. Duration: 70min no interval Artist Talk Sat 28 Feb, post–7.30pm show Created by the cast and creative team: Media and visual concept Desire Machine Collective Set and costume Stephen Curtis Dramaturg Hildegard de Vuyst Musical director Matthew Fargher Cultural consultant Patrick Dodson https://2015.perthfestival.com.au/Whats-on-by-Genre/Opera-and-Dance/Cut-The-Sky#
