Roma Street Parkland
Description
Roma Street Parkland, one of Brisbane’s premier parks, is considered to be one of the best contemporary display gardens in Australia. Roma Street Parkland, one of Brisbane’s premier parks, is considered to be one of the best contemporary display gardens in Australia. Located only 500m from Brisbane City Hall, Roma Street Parkland boasts 16 hectares of lush parkland and stunning city views. It is one of the world’s largest subtropical gardens in a city centre and is thoughtfully designed into precincts each displaying a specific type of subtropical flora. Take a stroll along the lakeside boardwalks, step into the misty rainforest to see the lush ferns and gushing creeks, meander the winding pathways of the Spectacle Garden or enjoy a picnic on Celebration Lawn. The peaceful setting and magnificent displays of flora make Roma Streep Parkland a popular attraction for residents, locals and tourists alike.
The parkland volunteers host guided walks at 11am and 1pm daily. Guided walks are perfect for those wanting to know more about the parkland’s design, flora and even the fauna that call the parkland home. The walks take around 1 hour at a leisurely pace and are completely free for visitors to enjoy. If you don’t fancy walking, hop on board the Parkland Explorer and enjoy a 20 minute audio-guided trackless train ride around the parkland. Trains run Wed-Fri 10am to 12.30pm and Sat and Sun 10am to 3pm. We do ask for a gold coin donation onboard to help towards keeping this service running.
If you’re hoping to make a day of your visit the parkland has plenty of facilities to make you comfortable. There are toilets, benches and shaded areas throughout the parkland and the walkways are accessible for wheelchairs and strollers. The Children’s Playground and open lawns are perfect for kids to play on. There are also BBQ facilities on site and picnic benches conveniently located for you to enjoy al fresco dining in the beautiful setting.
Roma Street Parkland is a popular event space hosting numerous events throughout the year. From vibrant cultural festivals, music performances, theatre productions and food festivals there is something for everyone to enjoy. The parkland is the backdrop to the popular showcase event Parks Alive. For more information about what’s on, visit The Hub or head to our website for a full list of events.
