Writing Centre is a

understandings and relationships through research and creative projects, symposia, conferences and residencies for Chinese and Australian writers. It also hosts exchanges of academic staff, higher degree by research students and undergraduates.
The centre encourages novelists, poets, non-fi ction writers, essayists, performance writers, biographers, linguists, translators, historians, journalists, literary scholars and writers on public a airs to meet and collaborate on ground-breaking creative and critical work, and consider ways to advance teaching and learning in the writing disciplines.
At Curtin, we are delighted to celebrate this significant crosscultural expansion of our commitment to writing and the teaching of writing. In the 1970s, Curtin was the first Australian university to offer an undergraduate major in creative writing. The Professional Writing and Publishing major was later added to provide creative writers with an industry-focused professional dimension to their work.
Curtin writing staff members include Miles Franklin Award winner Kim Scott, best-selling novelist and memoirist Liz Byrski, non-fiction writer and crime novelist David Whish-Wilson,
Calibre Prize-winning essayist and creative non-fiction writer Rachel Robertson and distinguished poet John Kinsella. Former

Crossing Boundaries New Voices from Indonesia
Not quite China but still well worth reading! Julie Crossing Boundaries: New Voices from Indonesia is an anthology of Indonesian short stories. The collection contains stories from across the archipelago—from Bali, Java, Sulawesi and Sumatra—written by some of the country's most exciting writers. The authors featured include rising literary star Eka Kurniawan, and emerging voices, such as Wa Ode Wulan Ratna and Uda Agus. Each story has been selected for its ability to convey a vivid sense of Indonesian society today—these are stories of city life, love and conflict in small villages, and fantastical goings on. http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/booksandarts/features/crossing-boundaries/
