Flinders University - Adelaide, South Australia
Hi all, below is a message from a Physical Education alumnus who is based in Saudi Arabia and sends his apologies for Monday's function ... From: James Mulraney [mailto:mulraneyjames@gmail.com] Sent: Saturday, 26 November 2016 6:22 PM To: Flinders Alumni <alumni@flinders.edu.au> Subject: 50 Anniversary PE Hi Russell Thanks for the invitation to the big 50 event for physical education on December 5. I was in the second year of intake for the Bachelor of Education ( Physical Education) in 1972 and this base qualification has enabled me to be a physical education teacher, deputy principal, principal, regional network leader, international leadership consultant and at the moment deputy director general of Riyadh Schools for boys and girls in Saudi Arabia. I have fond memories of Bob Paddick, Trevor Jaques, Barry Squires, Bob Withers and the others who made up the teaching team at the time. The course had a profound influence on me and I have done my best to follow the principles that were taught. I have managed to complete short courses from Harvard and other universities to add to my knowledge base however the foundation will always be in my Flinders days. Unfortunately I will not be able to be at the event due to work commitments however I hope it is a great success. Significant milestones always allow us to reflect on where we come from and what those times set us up to be able to do in the present and the future. Once I left Flinders for my first teaching job I never envisaged my journey would take me into two educational jurisdictions in two states of Australia and an overseas posting as a consultant and DDG. If Bob Paddick was still alive he would be very pleased that at least one of his admiring students accepted the challenge to keep learning and make a difference in much more than one school. Flinders graduates are all over the world helping others have a better future. Please pass on my apologies for not being able to attend the event.
