Jason Cowell - Psychotherapist/ Addiction Counsellor
Description
A local counselling service for adults, young people and their families. A place of warmth, understanding and support. A little about me and what my service is about:
I am passionate about working with adults (18yrs +) and young people (14 - 18yrs) to help them understand, manage and work through challenges in their lives.
Young people
I am a professional (Accredited, supervised and insured)l with a broad experience of working with young people and my goal is to enable them to develop and achieve their own strengths so that they are supported in reaching their potential. I have a proven record of demonstrating an understanding of the needs of young people and an ability to raise their aspirations. A core feature of my service entails engaging hard to reach young people and, over time, understanding their story and helping to motivate and empower them to be active participants in their own lives and issues that are affecting them.
I emphasize the importance of a respectful and creative CBT approach in order to maximize the impact of my work. Your son/ daughter will not be seen as a number, but as a fully functioning person in their own right. I believe that counselling should ultimately be an enriching and nourishing experience for a young person, where they can feel valued. I also strongly believe that a mindful practice has a tremendous impact on what can be achieved in partnership with young people and their families.
Adults
I am an experienced Counsellor and Psychotherapist in my final year of a BA (Hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Cork Institute of Technology. I am a very warm, understanding and approachable person and I draw on my experience, knowledge and wisdom in working with my clients. I am passionate about my work and I believe Counselling can make a significant improvement to people’s lives when they are experiencing difficulties.
I have successfully helped clients suffering from:
Depression
Work Stress
Anxiety and Panic Attacks
Self Harm
Bereavement and loss
Relationship difficulties
Low Self Confidence
Abuse
My Approach
My style of Counselling is based on the Humanistic approach. This approach draws from a number of rich theoretical frameworks such as Person Centred, Transactional Analysis, Attachment, Complex Trauma, Personality Function and Dysfunction, Gestalt and Object Relations.

So true...
Hi everyone, Just want to say a huge thanks to everyone who recently donated board games and jigsaws. They are already being used as a tool to support stressed teens find moments of peace and focus. You are all brilliant and the sense of community spirit has been great to see. I'd like to try somesomehing else this week. This week, I have been noticing that kids struggle to stay with that self care time, they too often get distracted, pull away to screens or feel pressured to do more homework or study more (third yrs and sixth yrs particularly!!). Today (bizarrely) I am looking for any of your TEALIGHTS. I am going to use them so that the flame can be a timer for them to stay with the activity, meditation, jigsaw that they are doing. Simply put - They do self care as long as the flame burns. If it is scented, even better, as it can be an even nicer experience for them. I imagine a teenager taking 6 tealights home after every session and the aim is to use all 6 before their next visit. 6 lovely hours of self care which will go to their mental health each week. So each tealight offers at least one hour of peaceful space for one teenager. I can't do this without you guys, so any help as before is hugely appreciated. Drop into well-being centre anyday and anytime
I’m still here. Still. – A personal journey in the Irish mental health services
Unfortunately this also is my experience as a professional through the years. We need a national debate to fix a chronically toxic mental health system that is based too often on medication and too little in respect, compassion and placing the person at the centre of every single action from the first hello to the last hug goodbye. https://rebelcitywriters.wordpress.com/2017/01/20/im-still-here-still-a-personal-journey-in-the-irish-mental-health-services/comment-page-1/#comment-101

Ursula Somerville Be silent in your mind, silent in your senses, and also silent in your body, Then, when all these are silent, don’t do anything. In that state truth will reveal itself to you. It will appear in front of you and ask “What do you want?” (Kabir, cited in Sardello, 2008: 35)
This gif to help you breathe correctly
Thought this was a really nice idea. It can be used to aid a meditation or simply to be stored on your phone and to be used to stp and breath.I would be interested in those who suffer from panic attacks or anxiety to begin to try this when they are feeling overwhelmed. To lool at the screen and follow the cues. Let me know how you got on. http://m.imgur.com/n5jBp45
